You do have to, actually. You have to go through special college programs to become any kind of teacher. Granted, at schools like where I went you could substitute without having even graduated college, but those people only get paid, what, $12 an hour to substitute for HIGH SCHOOL classes, while the teachers get paid around $15 an hour (I know because my mom substitutes) but that is a low funded school. To have almost doubled pay as a substitute than a regular teacher, that would have to be some real high end kindergarten, and at such schools, they wouldn't be shoveling money out to just anyone. That's private school wage.
