Fallout 3 and New Vegas ARE Skyrim with guns. They are made by the same people New Vegas was made by Obsidian, but still kinda counts . A good start is to not help the powder gangers as they give you no real advantage in the game. I would reccomend siding witht he NCR over Legion. NCR has better armor and weapons and are pretty much everywhere. Legion has crappy low level weapons and spears with shitty armors. Make your way to Primm and get ED-E. Then go to Novac and get Boone. With ED-E you will have enhanced radar range and be able to know enemies are around from greater distances. ED-E also shoots flaming lasers. Boone is a near perfect shot sniper. He often kills things before you even pull out your gun. His perk highlights enemies while you zoom in so if it is dark you can still know where they are. As for main quests, I tend to avoid them so you'd have to ask others.

If you find the game bland at any point, I highly advise installing a bunch of small mods like ones I listed. The small ones add detail to the game and make it more interesting.

There is another big mod out there that I have yet to try. Tale of Two Wastes. It combines Fallout 3 and New Vegas. You play through 3 as normal, but you can "move" to New Vegas as a courier and get launched into the NV story. I'm not 100% certain, but it has been reported to fix some glitches in NV somehow.

My preferred way is with Endless warfare mod to make it zombies(optional if you don't like zombies then ignore this step), no fast travel, very hard, hardcore, only carry small amounts of ammo(40 for pistols, 150-200 for ARs, 30 for snipers, 30 for shotguns), Neveda Skies, no travelling at night(Neveda Skies helps with this since you can't see farther than a few feet in front of you without using the "brighter nights" option).

I know there are ENBs out there, but I don't really like to change the base game that much. I prefer to add to it rather than recreate. The only texture changes I like were to the guns as some seemed out of place or too clean.

I find weapon mods amplify the game despite only being weapons.

Pretty much any of the gun mods by Millenia: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/users/431125/?tb=mods&pUp=1
My favored guns are the G36, M14, Trenchgun, Beretta 92 FS, and Taurus Raging Bull. He also has a texture pack to re-texture most if not all of the vanilla guns. They look a lot better with his textures. He still makes guns for the game and each gun when installed, can be found at docs house, bought in stores, or looted off dead enemies/allies.

XRE Cars: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49042/?
Adds a bunch of cars that can be driven by the player. Surprisingly smooth controls and movement. There are a few fan made packs to add more cars.

Neveda Skies: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35998/?
Adds weather. Changes the game drastically. Rain, sandstorms, darker nights(can't see shit), radstorms, and snow(if near jacobstown). Sandstorms hurt while radstorms give radiation(duh).

Unique Items and Collectables: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40823/?
For the collectors and hoarders. If you like collecting junk to decorate or just treasure, get this. It puts in a bunch of real world items throughout the waste. Random decorative items, NES (+ games), Records(Elvis, Sinatra, etc), foods and other unique well made items. Some even give you perks.

Endless Warfare: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/50423/?
Lets you change what entities spawn in the wastes. My preferred choice is ghouls (with a slow walking mod) and prospectors to make it feel like a zombie apocalypse.

Mobile Truck Base: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/50978/?
Adds a mobile player home that you "drive" to major locations using flamer fuel as gas.
Pure water sink, working stove(cook food like campfires), plenty of containers, a bed, and a mirror to change hair.

Extended New Vegas Radio: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/36835/?
Lets you add your own music to the Radio New Vegas station.

Pip-Phone 3000: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55678/?
Let's you call people you've talked to at least once so you don't waste time on missions that make you run back and forth. Also great for calling traders to sell the items you need to get rid of and to call doctors to heal. Can also reach followers and makes them teleport to you.

Pheonix Point: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49173/?
A very well designed player home. Armory in basement, kitchen/bar, outdoor pool, 2 bedrooms, bathroom(working toilet and shower), and a living room.

CASM: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/36730/?
Rewrites the way the game saves to avoid the saving/loading crashes that you will face with the game.

Signus Arms: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/56480/?
Not as good as Millenia's weapons, but these add new ammo types for the new guns. Adds a fair sum of new weapons including a 30mm rifle.

Winnebago: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/45947/?
Similar to the Mobile Truck house, but has more room, less containers, no mirror, uses no fuel, and has a bathroom.
User avatar #20 - wertologist (09/15/2014) [-]
The walking Dead: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34933/?
Makes ghouls walk instead of run. They limp towards you like zombies.

Official Pipboy Readius: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/36646/?
Removes the pip boy and glove off your arm and gives you a small handheld device to replace it.

Real World Drinks: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/48949/?
If you want to add variety to the alcohol in NV. It adds a bunch of real world alcoholic drinks into NV.

Holster Gear: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44625/?
Adds a bunch of holster gear setups you can wear other armor. For the people who want to look more survivalist.

Perk at every level: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34707/?
Explains itself.

Levelers house: www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/47473/?
If you want to start out with higher stats or with better perks. Also useful if you had to start over and don't feel like taking all the time to re-level up. Adds an ammo press in the house to make all ammo types(hp,ap,etc) and adds a few "XL" weapons like a hunting shotgun with explosive rounds.

Here's a weapons pack that I ain't seen on the nexus, it comes with a shit ton of weapons and adds an armory inside the lucky 38 suite, so don't have any lucky 38 suite-changing mods running, even so, the mod will still work, but the door to the armory will be in a weird area and entering it will cause a crash. It also adds a shop right next to the atomic wrangler in freeside, the shop and armory are a bit laggy, and I've found that the armory does crash on occasion, so save before entering either.
www.loverslab.com/topic/13592-massive-amount-of-weapons-pack/
Wicked pack, only downside is some of the guns are a bit weak on the damage scale compared to normal weapons, especially the ones that use more expensive ammo, while others are just fucking nuts.
The weapons are added to enemy lists so you'll see better ones out there as you level up, or you could just go into the armory in the lucky 38 suite to get access to every weapon that comes with this mod along with every gun modification and more ammo than you could ever use.
The armory is locked at first, to get to it I think you need to buy one of the weapon cases in suite upgrades and have a high enough lockpick level to get to it I can't really remember.
<---- Not even half of the weapons in it
