Honestly, except for the synth retention bureau. they all seem to have the common good of the commonwealth in mind. All the incidents you heard about, such as the since killing everyone were non-intentional, and were accidents. the Institute were actually the once that started the conference to try and bring peace to the commonwealth.
They did very little killing and replacing and only a few times i heard it happening. The mayor of diamond city, and some random farmer. Those parts are kinda meh, but they hope to repopulate the surface with fauna and flora that are resistant to radiation. The exact goals "seem" to be exert influence over the commonwealth and share the technology with the citizens. However, the goals are pretty vague, and open ended as you determine those once you assume leadership. That being said, very little story happens once you take leadership that is variable. I really enjoyed that ending though.

As far as i can tell, they have not intentionally killed more than a few people, the rogue synths were not done on purpose, and in fact were let out before they were ready.

I guess it probably wouldn't be as big of a deal at my now higher level because I have tons of ammo and nearly one shot everything but at the early parts of the game, ammo was scarce and my damage was low so he really fucked me up.

Usually the loot he found was just something I could find on my own and him grabbing enemies just messed up my aim. The lone wanderer thing is cool though.

Command blocks have done wonders for these people when they were released. Now you've got the ability to spawn and remove blocks at will.

The shift from redstone logic engines to this is like what the invention of the microprocessor did for modern computers, really.

It's probably closer to what happened when high-level languages replaced Assembly and machine code as the primary software development method. Rather than thinking in terms of hardware and having massive lists of instructions per program, you could just use a light, smarter syntax to do intense processes at a much faster rate while taking up much less space for the source. Plus, command blocks directly reference the code in the game rather than utilizing it's engine to perform operations, which is a lot easier than your actual hardware.

personally i miss pre commandblock days, sure now maps are more interesting but the old redstone logic was real fun to look at and felt more intune with the game

Yea, I miss that feeling too, though I am divided on it.

For single player and adventure maps, there was a spring of joy when I "programmed" my first ROM using pistons, glass and wool blocks to make a sequencer.

For admining multiplayer servers though it was a fucking nightmare when people lagged the place with their inventions.
