Reading your comments, I can definitely see what you mean. I was talking about when it's crowded somewhere, though.
I mean, if I know I'm not bothering anyone I don't give two shits about where I light one up, but when, for example, I'm at a busy train station or something I make sure I stand in the area meant for smokers.

In my school, people would just stand in the entrance when it was raining because that was the only outdoor place with a roof. They would normally stand there when it wasn't raining as well because they couldn't be arsed to walk 25 meters to the side where they wouldn't bother anyone with their disgusting habit.

An asthmatic girl had to go to the hospital because she was in a class that had windows above the entrance to the school.
Every fucking day for 3 years of time I had to walk through this thick cloud of smoke to enter my own fucking school. The stairwells stank of smoke, the classrooms with windows near the entrance were impossible to have classes in because they stank of smoke, and if you asked the smoker to please move away from the entrance you'd get a "stop fucking bitching at me for doing it it's my lungs you little shit"

If you know it's going to rain and you know you're going to need to smoke that day bring a fucking umbrella, and move the fuck away from our roofs.

It's not just your lungs, I had friends that couldn't go home from school until about half an hour after the entire building was empty because when all the people went home they just stopped right in the fucking entrance to have a smoke before they left.

It's not your lungs I give two shits about, it's mine and my friends'.

No, it is not the school's job to present smokers with shelters because they can't be arsed to be decent human beings and stand somewhere else than in the entrance while sucking on their death sticks.
Our school didn't have a school yard and shared the building with lots of other companies as well, there was no place to build a shelter. That does not give you sick fucks the permission to stink up the stairwells, classrooms, entrance hall etc.
#244 - craigdavid (11/13/2013) [-]

also the fuck on about sick fucks. close the fucking window and dont cry about it. if theres a person with asthma why is the window open in the first place, and why is smoking allowed within a certain distance of the building. thats a failing of your school, if someone came outside and said yeah your smokes causing a girl to SUFFOCATE BY GOING THROUGH THE WINDOW i MIGHT be inclined to move. but you are essentially being a massive fsacist cunt by saying 'if you smoke, yourea bad person'.

You know what, I will apologize on the blowing smoke in faces, i hadn't gotten through most of the conversations at that point, however, I still find your anger towards designated smoking areas terrible. those areas are set to have the least possible impact on others, to keep as many people happy as possible.
#68 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
refer to my other post about my college, that pretty much explains why im getting angry, if its an enclosed shelter i dont have a problem with it. i actually appreciate that to be honest but its when they just give you a random open space and say 'smoke here, not under the bike shelter over there or under the overhang over there. no not even id its raining', i can understand why theyd say that if it was decent weather but if it isnt who in their right mind is going to be in those places in bad enough conditions to warrant smoking in there anyway. thats the problem i have with it because thats what i associate with the phrase 'designated smoking area'

i am saying that i do not contribute as much polluition to another person's body by smoking as cars do by driving down the road. yano with all the SMOKE and CARBON MONOXIDE pouring out of the exhausts ALL THE TIME as opposed to every 5 seconds. im also saying the damage done by exposure to second hand smoke is negligible unless it occurs over a long period of time, i.e. in a pub where the dor is closed, lots of people are smoking and there is no fresh air.

and then im saying that the law already accounts for long time exposure to second hand smoke, and as such has put into a place a law which says that you are not allowed to smoke in any public building wahtsoever

i dont think anyone should have to put up with my smoke but if they dont wanna put up with it im not going to go out of my way to accommodate them as long as they have an easy way to avoid the smoke

True, nobody should have to put up with your smoke.
But you need to understand, smokers are the minority. The minority does not make accommodations for the majority, just the opposite. And the majority does make accommodations for the minority, i.e. go to a designated smoking spot, or go outside.. It may be easy for them to avoid the smoke but it would also be just as easy for you to avoid smoking near them.
All that said, if you're in a designated smoking area and someone asks you to stop, you have every right to tell them to suck a nut.

finally we come to an equilibrium

in the event someone asked me to stop smoking on the street, unless they had a good reason like their cancer riddled ex smoker grandad was sat in a wheelchair right next to me, i would just say 'sorry but i want to smoke this cig' and carry on

and to be honest the reason im going on about smoking areas being bad is because i used to go to greenhead college in huddersfield, west yorkshire, england for year, and they would give us hell about smoking by the front gates despite us being given no place to smoke, hell it wasnt even sheltered but they still expected us to walk down the road in snow and ice to have a cig.

can you say that the above situation is fair? keeping in mind this is open air and in a place where the air is very rarely still enough for smoke to not blow away, and also keeping in mind that this college has entrances all over the place, we just stood at the bottom of the main drive on the footpath outside college

You said that if you don't have "the physical strength to make somebody stop doing something, then there is no use bitching about it" because there's nothing you can do. So if you want somebody to stop smoking near you, or if you want them to smoke in the designated area, you should assault them to get them to move.

you're not only polluting your own body, you are also polluting the ones around you.
#51 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
it isnt my responsibility to look after someone elses body

if they get second hand smoke its going to do almost nothing to them unless they are exposed to itfor a prolonged amoutn of time, i.e. like in a pub filled with smoek

this is the reason smoking inside public places is illegal

you get more pollution in your body from breathing while stood next to a main road for ten minutes than you do from standing next to a smoker for fifteen, but i dont see you trying to make people cut down pollution from cars.
#53 - meter (11/10/2013) [-]
#57 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
i am saying that i do not contribute as much polluition to another person's body by smoking as cars do by driving down the road. yano with all the SMOKE and CARBON MONOXIDE pouring out of the exhausts ALL THE TIME as opposed to every 5 seconds. im also saying the damage done by exposure to second hand smoke is negligible unless it occurs over a long period of time, i.e. in a pub where the dor is closed, lots of people are smoking and there is no fresh air.

and then im saying that the law already accounts for long time exposure to second hand smoke, and as such has put into a place a law which says that you are not allowed to smoke in any public building wahtsoever
User avatar #59 - meter (11/10/2013) [-]
even if cars have a lot more pollution you shouldn't make it worse by smoking a sigarette in public places where poeple are near and have to smell the shit coming from your blowhole
#70 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
i have to smell the shit coming out of exhausts. the people in there are going somewhere faster at my expense. other people are occasionally smelling a smell they might find unpleasant for a space of five minutes so that i can make the wait for my bus less boring or so that i can destress from college. how is it your business to say how i live my life?
#39 - lokiak (11/10/2013) [-]

however me wanting to smoke at leisure totally warrants an ASBO. you are right. well done lokiak i will now quit my hedonistic ways and devote my life to the betterment of all mankind
#41 - lokiak (11/10/2013) [-]
I'm saying that because you won't take your trash to a bin when you're done with it. That's pretty antisocial.
#42 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
i guess most of britains about to become a council estate then because fuck all people put their rubbish in bins. thats the reasonwe have street cleaners. because people dont use bins.
#43 - lokiak (11/10/2013) [-]
just because x amount of people do something, does not mean it's an ok thing to do. smoking in itself is an antisocial behavior. littering is another. just because you have street cleaners, shouldn't mean it's ok for you to throw your shit on the ground. it'd be like me going around and every few minutes tossing gum wrappers everywhere with chewed up gum in them. that's just not cool man.
#46 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
hell, spitting isnt cool. neithers swearing but i get the choice of whether or not to do them. sure, in some situations ill catch shit for doing it which is why in those situations i wont do it. i dont throw actual rubbish on the floor i carry that to a bin. its a different matter when the rubbish will stain almost anything it touches and make it stink for ages which means that its even more unpleasant for other peoplefor longer

and yes i know i stink of smoke already but i wear deoderant and i always have a jacket on when i go to smoke so that most of the smell sticks to that and not me.

i do my best to be considerate to others when smoking so i dont see why im somehow kicking up a shitstorm by claiming that smokers shouldnt be treated like jews in nazi germany
#49 - lokiak (11/10/2013) [-]
well you done brought up nazi's. I see this conversation isn't going anywhere. Because once someone pulls that card there's really no good argument to be had afterwards. I can only say this to your problem of carrying around butts. If you won't carry it around with you, what makes it ok to throw it on the ground? Also, have you thought about carrying something around to put your spent cigs in? Possibly a bottle of some sort? People do that where I live for their dip rather than spitting on the ground because nobody wants to walk around on dip spit.
#54 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
i was using nazis to exaggerate my point i dont actually think smokers are being treated as such. what i mean is that smoekrs are being made social pariahs over a choice we have made, even when we attempt to make discretion for others. and i take your point about carrying butts around in a bottle, it seems fair but i am literally too lazy to go to that much effort unless im in a place where it would be properly disrespectful to toss it, such as a graveyard or church grounds or something like that
User avatar #37 - sardinez (11/10/2013) [-]
I do understand what you're trying to say, smokers should be allowed to smoke its their choice, but it's the people who smoke right next to doors or at playgrounds and schools that are a problem.

No, people shouldn't have to move out of the way of your smoke when there is designated areas specifically for you. You don't deserve that entitlement - nobody does.
#38 - craigdavid (11/10/2013) [-]
im not saying they should have, to but im just saying they have that option open to them just as i have the option to walk away when somebodys playing music loudly. in addition i could ask them to stop but its unlikely that they would, i never smoke around children because that would be some next level bullshit, playgrounds and schools are not places for smoking. i would only smoke right by a dorrway if the weather was so horrendous that it was ridiculously unpleasant to smoke in the open, and even then im already being forced to gout of my way to accomodate for non-smokers by not smoking inside (which, as i have said, i have no problem with)

tl;dr
i dont think anyone should have to put up with my smoke but if they dont wanna put up with it im not going to go out of my way to accommodate them as long as they have an easy way to avoid the smoke
User avatar #44 - sardinez (11/10/2013) [-]

True, nobody should have to put up with your smoke.
But you need to understand, smokers are the minority. The minority does not make accommodations for the majority, just the opposite. And the majority does make accommodations for the minority, i.e. go to a designated smoking spot, or go outside.. It may be easy for them to avoid the smoke but it would also be just as easy for you to avoid smoking near them.

#119 - fruhest (11/10/2013) [-]

#237 - craigdavid (11/11/2013) [-]
thats your schools fault for not providing a smoking shelter then isnt it. easy solution right there. i didnt design the school so i dont give a fuck
User avatar #241 - fruhest (11/13/2013) [-]
No, it is not the school's job to present smokers with shelters because they can't be arsed to be decent human beings and stand somewhere else than in the entrance while sucking on their death sticks.
Our school didn't have a school yard and shared the building with lots of other companies as well, there was no place to build a shelter. That does not give you sick fucks the permission to stink up the stairwells, classrooms, entrance hall etc.
#244 - craigdavid (11/13/2013) [-]
lastly. why the fuck did the stairwells stink. what kinda pricks did you go to school with and why the fuck did you rschool not have a schoolyard. you live in fuckign detroit or something yeezus
#243 - craigdavid (11/13/2013) [-]
also the fuck on about sick fucks. close the fucking window and dont cry about it. if theres a person with asthma why is the window open in the first place, and why is smoking allowed within a certain distance of the building. thats a failing of your school, if someone came outside and said yeah your smokes causing a girl to SUFFOCATE BY GOING THROUGH THE WINDOW i MIGHT be inclined to move. but you are essentially being a massive fsacist cunt by saying 'if you smoke, yourea bad person'.

fuck you sair, and have a pleasant day.
#242 - craigdavid (11/13/2013) [-]
if you do somethign i dont wanna tolerate i can accommodate for you. whats a shelter against straight up shunning multiple people for what they wanna do. stick a sheet of metal on some sticks, its better than nothing. then at least youve got an excuse for your bitching
