Thank you very much for not hating on the show. It's always nice to see someone online who can actually use common sense.

My main point was the intended audience is female. I didn't know if you were hating on it or not, but wanted to be sure without being rude.

i was hating on the people who vehemently try to deny it being a girls show, like theyve gotta save their masculinity or something. its like by all means watch it but dont try to change what it is just so you feel validated doing so, its like me justifying watching a cooking show by saying NO THEYRE MAKING A SDTEAK AND THATS FOR MEN. its just like what
User avatar #34 - unusualember (11/30/2013) [-]
Exactly. Just accept the fact that your watching a show about cartoon ponies which also happens to be a really good show. I'm female, so I face less persecution for liking MLP, but I still get dirty looks from people who think I'm too old for that. Still, I'm going to keep watching it because I don't give a flying rat's ass what other people think of my interests. There's no need to justify watching MLP, seeing as we live in an age where far worse things are considered (albeit sometimes begrudgingly) to be acceptable.

Honestly, if I had a son, I'd rather he be watching an innocent cartoon show then going out shooting people in the name of manliness.

Well yeah, it was originally intended to be a kid's show aimed at young girls. Still doesn't mean it's wrong for grown men and women to watch it, though.

Like the only points you're making?
>Girls liking ponies and pink and barbie
And why, is what I'm asking? what specifically makes that feminine? Wasn't pink a boy's color before the fifties?
>acting as if you're from some utopiac society which has eradicated all gender roles
I don't believe that. I'm just trying to understand.

The fact of the matter is, is that its considered a girls show. If we look at society we can easily see that it was and is meant for girls. The entire thing is based on stereotypes. Stereotypes are based on what people have done or are doing. So in some sense stereotypes are true, although other than evidence of the stereotype nothing logically proves it is true. So, the argument is based on the propensity for girls to like pink, and "feminine" things, while boys have a propensity to like things such as rockets, guns, fighting and danger. We cannot prove our point other than showing that it has held true in most cases of society.
User avatar #51 - dvdfaust (11/14/2013) [-]
I guess I'll just put it down to marketing, then, honestly... which makes sense, because it's hasbro... better than it being society, I guess.

shut the fuck up, it is not a debate, it is an argument on the internet about a girls cartoon. liking the way you ignored my point about stereotypical kids things as well, i.e. pink was a sterotypical boys colour back in victorian times (not the fifties) however society changed, and boys had different fuck it i aint even typing any more bollocks peace faggot if ur a troll u win u got me a bit vex

What about Ponies is specifically girly, though? Horses were used in war, and are signs of strength on coats of arms, right? "Strong as a horse," right? And what's lacking to make boys watch it? what would you include that's specifically boy oriented? And then we descend into dogmatism, "It's for girls because it's for girls." that comment didn't really make sense. As for making excuses, I just enjoy the debate, and want some logic to back it up.
#35 - craigdavid (11/14/2013) [-]
ponies are not horses. ponies were used to carry women who were afraid too ride horses. and i refuse to have this argument because theres no winning. youre pulling apart every tiny thing while im working on vague stereotypes. i already asserted that i was aware people have their own opinions which may not fit the norm but society dictates a certain average, which is girls liking ponies and the colour pink and barbie, whereas boys are expected to like racing cars and robots and guns and whatnot. you knew that but you were beign too much of a pedantic prick and acting as thoguh youre from some utopaic society which has eradicated all gender roles and all that shite.

tl;dr stop being an immature prick, accept you watch a girls cartoon and move on, start wanking to it with little pictures of the characters glued on your nipples for all i care just stop trying to stop the fact its a girls show

im done, not replying after this
