Yeah well see, people who attend universities have future aspirations. It doesn't take much to drop out and join the army only to kill who ever the oil tycoons tells you to kill.

takes even less to sit in a classroom, believing that you have some kind of future, only to graduate and then realize that you are serving the same oil tycoons. Sit on, anon, sit on. fucking arrogant.

These character are from an anime called "Soul Eater". In Soul Eater, a bunch of kids go to a school where they are taught to wield weapons, these weapon in question actually being other students who can transform into weapons. Usually a team consists of 1 meister (wielder of the weapon) and 1 weapon. However, in the team you see in the picture above, there's an exception. The black-haired kid is really obsessed with things being symmetrical, so he must have two weapons to "keep the balance" or some shit. Got it?

Yes, people do rot. They die of "old age," or in other words, they decrease in efficiency and increase their entropy until they can no longer function.
This is true of both computers and people.
#308 - crackboots (03/12/2012) [-]
old people still use energy around them to decrease their entropy.
unless dead, elderly still eat, digest, breathe and excrete.
and although not as efficient as younger people it's still good enough to keep them from rotting.

In the same way that a simple human can be programmed to be obedient, so can a simple computer be programmed to only follow specific commands. However, modern AI has progressed much farther than that and has many different methods of learning. And further, this AI is constantly improving with new innovations.

Computers can learn, and remember things, and are becoming more advanced as time goes on. The main difference is that humans have had millions upon millions of years to evolve, with quadrillions of experiments gone wrong. Computers have had less than 100 years, and are already approaching human intelligence.

We are each made of atoms that solely follow the laws of physics. What makes you think we are not comparable beings? Is it that you think Hydrogen and Oxygen are more "alive" than metals?
Here is a mindfuck for you.... We both run on electricity.

computers rust (entropy increase) even when they're fully functional, people don't rot when alive.

User avatar #106 - dontshoot (03/08/2012) [-]
America is the wealthiest country in the world (citizens and living conditions) and the most powerful (on the economic scale) why do you think everyone crashed when we crashed
User avatar #116 - jesusnipple (03/08/2012) [-]
I don't know too much about economics, but I do know current events. Isn't that because most currencies, if not all, revolve around the US Dollar?
User avatar #121 - dontshoot (03/08/2012) [-]
it also has to do with the fact that we (americans) buy the most products, it used to be because we manufactured the most products but now thats all been outs outsourced
User avatar #125 - jesusnipple (03/08/2012) [-]
Wouldn't that cause debt, such as we find ourselves now?
User avatar #133 - dontshoot (03/08/2012) [-]
yes and no. the only reason the U.S.A is in debt is becuase of the two wars we were fighting (Iraq is now over) we had to borrow money (mostly from china) to fund these wars. remember the govermeant collects taxes so they make money from citizen while we get payed from are jobs. Before good ole George W. america had a surplus of jobs and money
User avatar #136 - jesusnipple (03/08/2012) [-]
I think that was bound to happen sometime, Bush just didn't help prevent it much, or even sped it up. Obama is sorta helping, but not very much at all.
User avatar #139 - dontshoot (03/08/2012) [-]
the biggest issue was that bush saw that the jobs were leaving and instead of really fully addressing it he invaded two country's (one that was not even fighting us) to try and make his glory. the way he addressed the shifting job market was by giving the rich a tax break to try and make industry. this flopped right on its fat ass instead the rich took the tax breaks and moved more industry into India and china

#131 - jaminfine (03/08/2012) [-]
No, a human doesn't "understand" emotions.
It simply follows the basic laws of thermodynamics, motion, and entropy, and translates those physical and electrical reactions into the production of chemicals in the brain.

Think of it like a really advanced robot. It takes in sensual input like light, sound, and temperature, and then translates them into various outputs in the form of motions.

So although it appears you (the human) understand emotions (chemicals produced by your brain), You really have no control over how these chemicals are produced or processed.
#146 - crackboots (03/08/2012) [-]
> You really have no control over how these chemicals are produced or processed.
not consciously no, but the brain is aware and in control or those neurotransmitters.
so is every other part in your body.

what makes us fundamentally different from computers is that we start out "blank".
we aren't born with any knowledge aside from to cry upon feeling discomfort. we then progress into increasingly more capable beings.
a computer on the other hand can't do this, they have to receive everything they can manually from an outside source. after this the computer only repeats the instructions, but it'll never truly understand what it's progressing.

a good example of this is the recognition of objects; if you take 2 pictures of the same lake 1 from one side the second on the opposite side. humans understand the concept "lake" and how perspective acts on it. computers don't and won't see any similarity in the pictures.

once again brains are very different from computers.
comparing them would be like comparing a blood vessel to an electrical wire, or your digestive system to a car engine.

that doesn't matter.
the computing only goes faster, it isn't altered.
no matter how fast you can translate those letters, you'll never understand Chinese nor Russian if you use the dictionary method.

the brain is fundamentally different from a processor in both functioning and architecture.
a brain is as much a computer as a blood vessel is an circuit wire.

people on fj just don't get that
1, just because they wouldn't do something doesn't mean it's retarded.
2, they're doing the exact same thing something else.

ignorant people aren't the problem, the problem is they crowd together making their collective ignorance look like legitimate intelligence.
