Then he took the mask off, threw it under the platform (of what I assume to be a TARDIS, turned paradox machine), got his ushanka and said "Here comes the experiment." and his ushanka lit up, signaling the use of his time magic.

I think he's gonna test to see just how strong his time alteration magic really is, then probably try to manifest. That's what I'd do.
