And why does it fucking matter to you? If you don't like the atmosphere, move. Let people have their beliefs, have their ideals, and have their faith without bitching about it because you're "right." Maybe prayer gives people comfort. Maybe prayer allows them to make themselves believe they have some semblance of control over the situation, or can affect it in a positive way. Who are you to bitch and moan because "religion is being shoved down your throat?" Fucking move if you don't like it asshole, fucking move.

Faith and belief is fine, but when you live somewhere you shouldn't have to deal with getting pamphlets for a faith you don't follow shoved up your nose when you go out to do grocery shopping. Imagine the anger if someone hung around in a bible belt town with pamphlets for Islam or Atheism or whatever, shoving them in people's faces. Do you honestly think those people would think "ahh well, who am I to bitch and moan because religion's being shoved down my throat? Live and let live." No. They guy would possibly get attacked, and definitely get verbally abused. But by your logic he's got as much right to promote his belief system as anyone else, and well, if people don't like the 'atmosphere' he creates, they can just move, can't they?

I don't care what people believe, but being in a majority in a particular area doesn't give you the right to push your faith on other people and then justify it by saying "if you don't like it you can move." Hypocrisy is irritating.
User avatar #151 - achimp (09/26/2013) [-]
There isn't a freedom "from" religion. You do not have a right to be protected from every single religious pamphlet, ideal or person that you encounter. It's freedom of speech. Religions have just as much of a right to try to attract followers as anyone else does to hate religion. You're right, hypocrisy is irritating.

And yes, the Islamic/Atheist is allowed to preach and pass out pamphlets in the bible belt. Maybe he'd face backlash from the Christian community, that's really not the point. You're in an area where something is happening you don't like? Move. Or, petition it to change, instead of bitching about it like cory seems to be doing. But be prepared for nothing to happen, especially if you're alone in your petition.

Its been proven that prayer is a real thing, not that God gives you anything but it is because it is a positive attitude towards it.

So your argument is invalid.
User avatar #129 - squidgy (09/26/2013) [-]
I kind of agree that prayer can help, because it makes people believe they're going to recover, which definitely has an effect. But saying that invoking the placebo effect makes prayer a 'real thing' is like saying homeopathy's 'real' for the same reason.
#115 - coryxyzagain (09/26/2013) [-]
I'm sure we can all agree that there is a thing called optimism and that it isn't so bad. But as far as prayer, tilting your head downward and talking to yourself...no. There is nothing behind prayer except mental weakness.

Yea, I just don't buy that. He better be relying on all of his schooling and experience than the "divinity" of the magic man.

You better pray that no grammar nazis see that comment.

Dude, if someone is dumb enough to think that a deity, and that deity alone, saved their family member, they would definitely deserve your hate. However, if you are dumb enough to believe that every Christian is that idiotic, then you are no better.

Look man I live in the fucking bible belt. Anytime someone gets hurt or sick or anything, they pray. A post about old grandfucker having surgery on Facebook? Prayers, prayers everywhere. My family prays and they get emotional and they get fucking snobby when I pass on that shit. My family dragged me to a church when I was about 8 years old and those motherfuckers were yelling into a mic hooked up to the mother of all PA systems. I told them that the shit was hurting my ears, that it was so loud that I couldn't hear anything but distortion. Those jackasses told me to grab my ears and say "Devil, Get out!" Big surprise, it didn't work. The older I got the more full of shit they became in my eyes.

It is every where I look, bumper stickers, billboards, businesses. I can't walk out of a grocery store without someone trying to hand me a pamphlet about saving my soul. I have to deal with enough christian assholes on a daily basis to believe in such a generalization.

My family's FW praying.

Okay, my family. We celebrated my Papa's 70th birthday last week and my moms whole side of the family was there. Living in the bible belt, they are christian and of course prayed before the ate anything, and I don't believe in any religion. My grandma took my by the hand before they started praying and told me "I know how you feel about this kind of thing" and led me to where they were praying.. I interrupted her, telling her that it was not big deal, I don't have a problem pretending to participate. Everyone started to pray, I looked to the sky thinking to myself "well, where are you at?"

Okay, it has been going around my family that I snatched my hand away from my grandma and started jumping at her like I was trying to get her to flinch during the prayer. Acting like a total nigger towards my grandma. I didn't do such a thing, in fact I was the one of two people parking peoples cars for them and such, it was a big event. I helped the caterers set up while everyone else sat on their ass drinking beer. I was as big a part of the party as anyone else but still, still rumors are spread about me like that.

So fuck my family and their bullshit.

>Implying that I said anything about people only communicating by phone
>Pay as you go is still money out of pocket for something I don't want to use
>Exactly, no one should use a phone and drive, temptation removed.
