Finally ran out of bullets
While I don't agree with what you're saying here let's follow your line of reasoning, shall we?
Let all the low-life thugs just kill each other right? First of all, there are a lot of victims in a shooting. It's not just the person dying, it's not only their family and relatives who suffer. Maybe a teacher just lost one of his students that was on his way out of that shit. What about the medical response teams, doctors and paramedics who gave it their all to save this persons life but failed, and have to live with yet another death they were unable to prevent. What about bystanders? Imagine your kids just happening to witness a drive-by shooting, they weren't the target, but you can be damn sure it'll still be a traumatizing experience.
Secondly, violence is likely to spread. Even if most of the times it's just those 'thugs', sometimes innocent lives will be lost. There can be many reasons to this, simple mistakes, bullet ricochets, the need to dispose of witnesses or it can even be intentional, like a terrorist act. Violence leads to more violence. A prime example is the Charleston church shooting. These were families attending church (not what i'd call thugs), brutally murdered to incite a race-war. Even if you're the biggest racist cunt, it's not impossible to imagine this scenario happening in a white church by a black man as retaliation.
Thirdly, it hurts you personally, financially. First of all the immediate medical response and the police investigation are paid for by tax-money. On a yearly basis this amounts to a lot. Those are your taxes not being spent on something constructional. Second of all these people are not contributing to the local economies. It's why Detroit is a shithole for example. Places like these influence the national economy in a big way.
It's your attitude, of letting them kill eachother off, what is slowly destroying your once so great country. These problems are real, and they affect all Americans. They need to be dealt with and attitudes like yours are preventing that.
I hope i've explained my stance well enough, if not, let me know and i'll try to elaborate on it further. I'd also be curious to know what your reasoning is and why you think that these things don't affect you.
dude im just some dick on the internet saying dumb shit. obviously i wish that nobody would kill anybody. dont read into it so much
....allow me a scene, also from Darker than Black. Organized crime member bumps into a man just like anyone else in the street because he's watching his tablet. Say's sorry. The now stabbed man falls over dead.
Organized and semi-organized crime doesn't use guns half the time, they are fine using anything they can get their hands on, thugs and crime don't need guns, they can jsut take advance when they can get it an no other people can. And no, violence does not "spread" if the police are doing their job to provide a sense of law and order. As forfinancially....dude paying for the results of crime is always constructive and a necessary part of all government, fuck right off with that nonsense.
Stop trying to scapegoat the weapons for the crime.
I'm not scapegoating anything. Ofcourse the stabber is still to blame, like he would be when using a gun. Allow me a scene too then.
Man walks into the shed of his neighbour. 'Why is there such a big axe on the wall?' 'I use it to chop wood for the fireplace' 'Ok makes sense, but why is there a longsword next to it?'
As a historian this one speaks to me. A sword was very expensive back in the middle ages. Not because they were terrible hard to make or to come by, but because carrying a sword essentialy meant you had a 'license to kill'.
Good luck banning knifes, some objects are meant for other things, but used as weapons. Here even a simple rock could suffice. A firearm exist for the simple purpose of hurting/killing and they're damn good at it.
