a good script that wasn't just about shtick and actors that knew how to play off each other and could be entertaining while subtle

It had an all-star cast of comedic legends. The best thing the script did was keep it simple, play to their strengths and allow them to bounce off of each other well. Getting such a high-profile cast that has that level of chemistry together is a once in a blue-moon event.

that helps but even if they dont have chemistry...actors are actors cause they can act. its well documented that bill murray is an asshole and most people dont like working with him. that being said. the movie was very inovative with the brand of comedy where jokes bounce of the characters rather than the situation. however the most appealing fact of the movie from 1985 was that it was a comedy movie about HUNTING FUCKING GHOSTS

Yes, the effects and concept certainly played a part as well. You have to remember, though, that plenty of great concepts with even better effects have flopped before.

It was a very experimental time for cinema, before the naughties made "experimental" synonymous with "shitty".

my point exactly. if you go back to the 80s with a hot tub time machine, youll see how the entire 80s was just a feel. vibrant colors. no colors. loud music. overly techno music. dark cinema. wacky cinema. it was a time of extremes. everything was either boiling hot, or frigid ice cold. ghostbusters was a comedy that took a main focus on something dark, ghosts, and made it funny. it was the first time main stream ever made ghosts or gouls funny and the public loved it for that reason. i can stand here and tell you that that movie was extremely creative and innovative and unique while at the same time telling you that i dont even like it that much (oh god pls no ban)

how dare you even accuse me of that bullshit. i didnt even watch trailers let alone the movie. and you know why cause i knew it wouldnt hold up to the same standards that the first movie held up while it was still in its prime. maybe if you read my first comment with that clever little kermit. i know the new one sucks and i didnt even have to watch it. apart aside from the 3rd wave feminism exceptionalism which btw i have a whole laundry list of why thats fucked up i can tell you exactly why i knew it wouldnt be good, like i said before, the first movie was only succesful because it was an original. you cant remake an original movie and expect it to be original. that was also my biggest critique with the force awakens. i liked it for the same reason people liked it phantim menace when it first came out. people just dont want to be dissapointed by something they love. and while i was extremely happy the entire time i saw force awakens both times i saw it in theaters. i can still look back on it and break it down to a recreation of an original trilogy of movies: heres some spaceships, heres a bad guy, heres a good guy, heres the big death star they all shoot out. the movie itself was entertaining but the story is kinda borring. everyone shits on the prequels but the original trilogy and the prequels both have strengths and weaknesses that complement each other. and i pray to god. the next two movies figure that shit out cause if you ask me, the force awakens was not too much more than just an overcorrection of the prequels

Not her, sadly. Just a look-alike. She has about 3 so far, one of them even being a pornstar by the name LunaLovegood.
