Why ya hate DS2? And it is Raime, of course, but people draw so much attention to his moveset, background, history, armor, etc. that people predict him to be a rebirth of Artorias. Raime could possibly be a rebirth but I'm not too sure about it. His helmet is similar as well as him being left handed, not to mention why would Artorias' sword suddenly be revealed in the DLC? Too many questions, not enough answers. yet

I have to agree that the first is still miles better. The second one just seems cool cause customization. Honestly, it's just like playing a disappointing sequel for any other game I enjoyed. I don't really like it, but I need to complete it just because of the theme.

I wouldnt go so far as to say disappoint sequel. I very much enjoy DS2 because of what its representing, setting up, and offering to the players. People expected DS2 to mirror DS and I think that misconception is what made me people sort of turn away. I believe the games offer two different characters, two different atmospheres, and a ton of ways to go about them. The story I found to be less emotionally involved as DS but mind blowing the more you see how it connects to the cycle of Hollowing and inevitability. Not to mention the DS tidbits they throw in there to connect the two areas is fan-fucking-tastic. I honestly love where they went and am excited to see what will come of it. They listen extremely well to the fans and their feedback and are taking time with the third Dark Souls to make sure it wraps things up or sets up something new.

I liked the first one moreso because the world feels interconnected, so There's an easier way to get to blighttown, a shortcut to the forest, etc etc. The weapons in the first were more realistic, and if you didn't have the requirements for them, you wouldn't be able to use them (Almost AT ALL)
#268 - kazene (09/05/2014) [-]
Well that was moreso because you couldn't teleport right away. I admit, that was a very cool aspect of Dark Souls that seemed to just make you drag on and on and each time you passed by, something new occurred. They sorta took that out of DS2 but I didn't mind. Could you imagine walking throughout all of DS2? My God, the map is HUGE compared to DS1 and DS1 was big all on its own! The story, I agree, to be more emotionally involving in DS1 but I think that was sort of the theme about it. In DS1, no matter how hard you try, shit just got worse and you affected people negatively because of it without even knowing. You had ZERO hope. In DS2, you have hope. You have people that begin to rally behind you even though you're character comes off as more of the lone-wolf type. You improve and help people without meaning to. You meet every challenge without fear because you have confidence in your purpose. Thats what separated the games for me and made me love DS2 AND DS1. Different environments and atmospheres. Still love DS2 and its story because there's so much they could do.

People always seem to forget that, when you look a little closer, Dark Souls doesn't connect all that well either. The whole world is both set on top of an archtree and at the same time isn't, Ash Lake is somehow lower than Lost Izalith even though you can clearly see the sky, you can't see the rest of the levels from Ash Lake, you can see Izalith from the Tomb of the Giants but not the other way around, The Kiln of the First Flame appears to have its own sky, the list goes on. And also, they reskinned the Asylum Demon twice for a total of three almost identical fights and reused the Taurus and Capra demons as enemies later in the game.
The whole Souls series is far from perfect, but it's still a good series regardless of its flaws, and people don't seem to notice that anymore in favour of seeing the negatives over the positives.

Thats actually a pretty good point. I'm sure the Ash Lake thing has its reasons for having its "own sky" because the creators usually have a good lore or reason behind such things. I always thought it to be neat and terrifying that I could see Lost Izalith from Tomb of the Giants just because of how intimidating it looked. The Taurus Demon, Capra demon, and Asylum Demon I think were pretty much similar to the Sentinels of Dark Souls 2. Sure, they had their own boss fight at a point, and since they're considered to be very easy, they're added as normal enemies. I'm ok with that because I've seen other video games do the exact same thing. Its a bit lazy, I admit, but I don't really focus too much on it because I'm usually too busy dying by the enemy to notice lol. Hell, sometimes the flaws are what makes the game. (i.e. shitty hitboxes that make the game a hell of a lot harder as well as enemies not damaging each other even though a fireball got thrown in their face by their fellow comrade.)
