My situation was slightly different. My character loved animals, too much to realize the owlbear wasn't exactly thrilled finding itself with a new owner. Of course, my guy was the tank of the group, magical armor and craptons of HP relative to the rest, so the clawing didn't do much to him at that point. He got a 19 (plus whatever bonus he had) on his handle-animal check, and a crit on his str. check when he tried carrying it out (16 str + muleback cords), so he basically just dragged it home with him, while it struggled and flailed.

My lizardman barbarian/cavemanpimp springs to mind. The entrance to the dungeon collapsed after we hurled grenades everywhere, and finally destroyed something important. My character to the human ranger "is troll edible?" "What do you mean by edible" "will I die if I eat it?" "....no...but we have rations...." where upon I ate a quarter of the goddamn troll before we escaped that dungeon.

Finding them often would imply that you've been finding them for an extended period of time, so yes.
But I took the content to refer to a single instance, which would be the only reason it wouldn't work on most people. though, it would be a good way to attract people who were currently deciding whether they should get a tattoo, or planning on getting one.
Although, there's also some level of interplay with motivational relevance. If you weren't planning on getting a tattoo, already had one/ several from a place you trust, or had other thoughts/beliefs/experiences that reduced its relevance, then it would take a lot of repeated exposure to make any impact at all on long term memory.
This is because the LC-norepinephrine circuit, amygdala, and pulvinar would be attuned to other information (current research indicates these structures in motivationaly relevant attention capture); the aftereffect of which is hippocampal activity that pinpoints and stores anything relevant that's not an easily forgettable fake bill. Which would be especially true if they unfolded it with the spliced back side up instead of the business card side, because then it's just a false positive error with no real gain, so that information would degrade from memory rather quickly for most people.
I'm just going to go back to homework now.
