I would imagine after the events of the original trilogy, with how much damage a single Jedi caused, that they would be putting that pretty high up on their list to make sure it never happened again.

They might but it after the massacre that Kylo Ren caused I don't think that they would have suspected anyone could have been a jedi among their ranks.

Yes, but living out in a mostly secluded area of an out of the way desert planet and not knowing you have potential for force powers is a rather different scenario then living in an imperial or first order controlled military facility which is monitored 24/7 to which your subjected to constant medical scans of both a physical and mental nature.
#126 - corkyobject (01/13/2016) [-]
True but I don't think that they would be testing for midichlorians among every single trooper. I think they just tested their psychological and physical tests. Besides jedis were so rare at that point in time they probably didn't even bother looking for ones among their own troops.

I find that highly unlikely, seeing as the Jedi took force sensitive children in when they were infants, meaning that if fin WAS force sensitive, it would have been openly apparent that he was during his youth. I don't think he would just be going around as a member of the first order military and a stormtrooper for years, then just suddenly develope force powers.

If you look at Luke he didn't have any idea he was a Jedi until Obi Wan told him about his abilities and his families legacy, Even Ray had no idea about her abilities until she was forced to use them.

Just my own little train of thought here but, if after being abducted by the first order at a young age, Finn was found to be force sensitive, would the it not be due process for him to have been taken to train as a Sith/Knight of Ren, as opposed to just tossed into the big box of stormtroopers?
#92 - corkyobject (01/12/2016) [-]
Maybe he never showed any signs of having any jedi abilities. They did take several children at once and mainly brainwashed from that point on. So maybe he never tried to use it. Hell he could be the son of Lando or the grandson of Mace Windu.

Finn is also trained in hand-to-hand and melee combat like every other First Order trooper, because riots are a thing, and vibroblades are even easier to come by than blasters in Star Wars, just never shown in the movies because it would be far more difficult to produce the props and choreograph a sword-fight (excluding lightsabers, which were just handles with a reference point for the blade to be added onto) than a massive firefight.

Also it seemed like he was using the same fighting style as the stormtrooper - he starts off wielding the lightsaber like a baton.

.... As if swinging it like a club is hard.

Do you not understand how lightsabers work? It's relatively easy to swing a sword or club and NOT hit yourself. Practically have to try and hit yourself.

With a lightsaber, it's just a handle. Turning your wrist a little too far, your arm going too far since there's no resistance or weight (thus using more strength than required), moving too fast and being unable to stop your limbs in time = cut your damn arm off or insta kill yourself. Takes specialized training, even for force-sensitives, but at least they have a sixth sense to rely on, so even they can get by in a pinch.

Normal person, ESPECIALLY one trained in using physical melee weapons already, is pretty damn pepsi.

I thought I read somewhere that lightsabers have a sort of gyroscopic balance to them? I could be completely wrong.
