| True that. I think most kids would probably avoid putting in stupid answers unless they knew the right one for sure, except if encouraged I might have willingly taken a hit in French or English because I found them easy and didn't care about how high the mark was there. I know I've given a couple obviously wrong ones when I just literally had no idea what I was doing. when I was in elementary school, I was in a program called kumon, and for my english learning sometimes I would cross out the question in pencil and rewrite it because I was honestly just so bored of their questions, like instead of "what did the fox say" I would rewrite it as "what's that cool hot stuff that comes out of volcanoes?!". I was so awesome | ||

I was so awesome if a kid doesnt know an answer, and he cant even make an educated guess, I would much rather him write a clever answer than try to BS his way through the test #8 -
senorfrog (12/06/2015) [-] Like schools have intelligent workers. Almost every teacher I have met just took teaching since they could not do what they wanted, the others just was mad at life or hated kids. Then the faculty is just students who just got institutionalized, mothers who have nothing to do, and rich people in town who feel like changing things due to what they need (including failing students if they are over filled with workers). School, like the US government, is corrupted up to hell. #9 -
anon (12/06/2015) [-] You went to a shitty school. Can't generalize teachers based off of one shitty school. However, there is enough data to confirm there is a problem with American schools. Same in many other places, but that's not relevant here The problem is too much dependency on standardized testing and teaching kids to pass a test rather than learn. It's actually not the teacher's faults as much as the government's. As an aspiring teacher it irritates me when people say things along the lines of "those who can, do. those who can't, teach" There is a shitton of work involved in both becoming and being a teacher, and you get almost nothing back as a teacher. The reason I want to be a teacher is because I'm sick and tired of where the world is heading and want to do something that makes me feel like I'm changing it by educating the next generations in a similar manner to one of my favorite teachers, who could have had a job at a prestigious college with his knowledge and yet chose to teach my college. And most young teachers are in my boat. Either they like kids, like their subject and want to spread the joy of learning it, or they want to do it for the kids. Those who do it for the benefits or because they feel they can't succeed in their field aren't going to make it five years unless they're in a shitty school like OP's. There are thousands of bad teachers, as well as good ones. I have very high respect for the best teachers, but I don't pretend all teachers are good. Where I come from, the norm is for middle school teachers to grade you more on your ability to mimic than understand. I went down several grades in different subjects because I used a different method than the teacher, or explained it in a different way than the book. Most of my math teachers weren't this horrible luckily, so I didn't get points taken from using better methods than what we should've been forced to use. In high school I know there's a lot of difference, and I've heard a lot of horror stories. I was quite lucky, though. I had good teachers. One was out of this world good. I even felt bad for some others. We had science teachers that was incredibly skilled (both at teaching as well as knowledge), among the best in the country, but seemed barely mediocre next to him. In oral exams he would manage to magically make you remember everything you actually know, so you perform your actual best. If you got him, you could get an A of your own merit, where you otherwise might black out/remember nothing and get a D. I have more respect for him than most anyone else I know off. There's a lot of variety between teachers, but it'd be ignorant to say there's no teacher problem at all. Most teachers AREN'T bad, though. Bad ones don't last too long. That's what standardized testing is, and it likely came from the school board itself. The school board wants to see grades based on mimicry- teachers' hands are tied. It'd be different if it was just one teacher, but if all the teachers are doing it, it's likely not their desire to do so. There are a lot of teachers who support existentialism, also, but it typically tends to be a school board/government enforced thing. In high school everyone hates certain teachers. The teacher I'm talking about, who had such knowledge could read and write five dead languages and was highly proficient in English to the point of being a very respected critic and author was often hated for how strict he was about doing your work and doing it right. But if you did write something wrong, he tended to tell you EXACTLY what you did wrong so you'd stop fucking up. I'm not claiming all teachers are good, just that most tend to be, but are beaten down by the system into becoming what the kids see as bad teachers. #20 -

| It's not just that. EA rushed the game by deciding to publish the game months too early. There were huge bugs, almost to the point where the game was considerably broken. Likewise, a lot of people hated the game because it had a mandatory Origin sign-in and download. That's also what pissed people off. True, though, it was a little bit of Maxis's fault that they got shut down, but EA still had a great influence on their failure. >>#21, Thrive is a game being made slowly right now, basically a extremely realistic sim like Spore revolutionarygamesstudio.com/ #30 -
anon (12/05/2015) [-] To be fair devs admitted that there was a split within them during development that probably led to the game being generally being received as bad. to me the concept was so good that it couldn't have been completely ruined. Besides the caveman part I loved Spore. | ||
