Unown is basically the incarnate form of a bunch of ancient hieroglyphs. Speculation would lead one to suggest that, since they came from a different reality and the earliest writing was based on their form, it was them that inspired the first form of written language among humans. They're sensitive to the feelings of people and are known to have a hive mind (evident in their appearance in the third Pokémon film). When gathered together in a large group they can warp reality in their local vicinity to recreate the thoughts and dreams of anyone whose minds they read.

Unknown is a pokemon good sir who has a bunch of appearances corresponding to each letter of the alphabet and ? !. The Unknown for the letter I looks like this pokemons head. Hope this helps
