collegedood (06/15/2014) [] the complex plane. where the real number line (..., 2, 1, 0, 1, 2, ...) x axis and the complex number line (..., 2i, i, 0, i, 2i, 3i, ...) is the y axis. a*e^(i*b) are polar coordinates where a is the magnitude ( 2e^(i*pi) = 2 ) and b is the angle (e^( i * 3pi/4 ) = i/sqrt(2)+1/sqrt(2) i think, it's been a while) 1 is rectangular coordinates which take the form ai+b where a is the complex magnitude (up or down on the y axis) and b is the real magnitude (left or right on x axis) This is seen by my second example and for my first example the extended form would be 2e^(i*pi) = 0*i  2. It is a hell of a lot easier to explain this with pictures For polar coordinates, imagine the unit circle from trigonometry because it is essentially the same idea #92
