Another is one of my Top 5 anime of all time, so I'm glad you asked.

Another is a distinctly Horror and Mystery anime, complete with brutal death scenes, perfectly creepy and atmospheric music and sound effects, and surprisingly well-implemented camera angles and tricks. More impressive, however, is its portrayal of the effects of paranoia, insanity, and psychosis that the human mind is so vulnerable to. By making effective use of death's inevitability, the show depicts the mind's tendency to delude and falsely rationalize, much like Mirai Nikki or Tasogare Otome X Amnesia.

The plot (without spoiling anything) is as follows:

A teenage boy moves from Tokyo to a rural town in southern Japan for family reasons, and begins staying with his grandparents and aunt. Unsurprisingly, he quickly takes up classes at the local high school, which proves to be quite different from the private school he previously attended. In addition to the initial culture shock, however, he quickly notices that there's something "off" about the way the school operates. More accurately, however, is to say that his fellow students seem to be hiding something.

That "something" is the town's infamous curse. It is a time-dependent, isolated, and lethal affliction that attacks a specific class, of a certain school, at a set time of the year. (Guess which class the protagonist is in?) While the curse is in effect, members of that class (both students and school faculty), as well as blood relatives of those in the class, continue to die. Inexplicably, randomly, and horribly, students and family alike are claimed by the curse.

As a horror connoisseur, that alone got my attention, but here's the real kicker. There is a way to put an end to the curse, but the answer changes with each school year. Moreover, it's up to the current class to discover the new solution before they're all wiped out.

Here's an idea. Go to the nearest Wal-Mart, Kroger, whatever, and buy a box of microwave bacon. 5-10 seconds for a couple slices, and you can see if you like it, if not, at least all you wasted was a few dollars.
