Minor, irrelevant correction: 'aking' should be 'akin' as in 'The tourists got into the Tuk-tuk; a form of transport akin to a motored rickshaw'

Thank my Media Studies teacher for showing me the logical structure of the storyline. It's a good story, really, but you have to really associate with the story and have experienced every character in depth to really get it or enjoy it.

the movie is from 1985. its one of the first movies to introduce plenty of stereotypical teenagers and try to showcase them as being more than just what they look like.
the "Cliche" wasnt even a thing when this movie was made, which technically by historical law makes it not a cliche. its not just another teen movie, its a movie about how all different kinds of people can relate to each other, and the easiest way to make the audience feel recognize is by having them recognising characters in people they know or themself.
Just that consept makes it a good movie and even more a good story.

It was original.

I'm not sure you understood the purpose of this movie, so I'll explain because it is FUCKING PERFECT.

The Breakfast Club is not meant to BREAK stereotypes. Instead, it portrays the stereotypes visually and as characters, so that the people of that age identify them and associate them with people they know. With this association comes the appreciation for what they say and do. The characters that have revelations of teenage sexuality or behaviour can alert the viewer to these better than anybody else. The teenage audience that have the association can take this and identify how teen society really is, and from that, choose the path they want to take. They can be the drug guy, the good girl, the nerd, whatever. But they see how the structure of their personalities influences each other, and from this structure, they can confidently see where they find themselves. They can see the gothic character and say "I feel like I associate with that person most" and mirror them, but in turn, also see the flaws in that personality and correct it. It does not break the stereotypes, but merely portrays the stereotypes for the target audience to associate with and improve their attitude, personality and change how they view other people. As a teenager, I found it fascinating and it really influenced my ideas on how to act and the kind of person I thought I was.

I mastered in Forensic Chemistry. Of course I was the nerd. The nerd that liked the goth girl who was really just a complete bitch. That nerd.

I think most people on FJ were the nerd.

Interesting interpretation.

I don't think you are wrong, but i feel that it still portrays some stereotypes as "better" than other stereotypes.

You might very well be right about the whole associating with a person but also realising the flaws.

I will admit that it has been a while since i saw it. That being said, i still remember something aking to (correct me if i'm wrong) the typical bad guy getting the girl and the nerd, while happier, still being the one who makes the other peoples homework.

People who associate with the nerd, would perhaps after that portrayal not like their role at all and try to become an entirely different role.

Thank you for your excellent interpretation It was quite interesting.
