The majority of americans are overweight though, it's proven by many surveys and tests. The athletes are a minority, and the reason america won so many medals is because they had entries in almost all events, just like China.
And what has the billions of dollars it cost to land on mars done for the world so far?
MOTHER OF GOD, IT'S DIRT JUST LIKE THE OLD PICTURES
IT'S IN COLOUR AND HIGH DEFINITION
inb4 thumb massacre from americans

Now, I'm as anti-patriotic as the next guy -- but when will we stop seeing people as nations? We always try to categorize ourselves, people are like that.
I am not a flag,
I am not a nation,
I am a human being.
"I am a human being god damn it and my life has value!"
So, once we tear down these national, cultural, political walls. What do your surveys say?
#161 - misteranderson (08/28/2012) [-]
I'll stop seeing people as nations when they stop posting their stupid bald eagle with the lists of achievements that THEY didn't accomplish, a small number of smart people did.
And if I made americans a part of a whole instead of a nation on their own, my surveys would probably say that the average bodyweight of humanity has increased lol.
It's just facts dude, I have nothing against Americans in general, it's just a lot of the noisy ones are assholes, like the anon below me. Australia has a high obesity rate too, america just has the highest.
#153 - anonymous poster (08/28/2012) [-]
America is a great country, it has its flaws just like every other fucking country. Get over it. You people are a bunch of fucking childish shit heads.
Science is great, and only 2.5 billion was spent on it while 1.03 trillion gets spent on the military.
These space ops have brought us closer together as humans.
Chiefecho is idiot, yes, but you're just as fucking retarded misteranderson.
#155 - misteranderson (08/28/2012) [-]
Thanks for your unnecessarily childish and rude reply. When did I insult any other part of America apart from the proven overweight majority? I don't understand how I'm being childish by quoting statistics. And that 2.5 billion is 2.5 wasted, it's reasons like that why America has trillions of dollars of rising debt.
And what's with that bullshit statement about bring us closer? What has looking at dirt on mars got to do with bringing people closer together?
People like you are the reasons people dislike Americans, and I think I understand that you knew your argument was weak and that's why you replied as an anon.
#163 - anonymous poster (08/28/2012) [-]
These research ops are not a waste at all. Hardly.
I don't much agree with this other Anon's statement. But if I may bud in here, Space exploration is an important thing, we learn about the history of our universe around us. And it's not like you can say science hasn't brought us together. When we connected our stations in space with the Soviets that brought us together as a people closer than ever before.
Science brings us together because we as humans make advancements and learn about our own history. NASA has invented so many things and found out so much new information about our existence (and possibility of other's existence in the past.)
As humans it's psychologically natural for us to want to gain knowledge. And through space exploration we can learn a lot through that. We are NOT the center of the universe, there is a whole new world out there, and it would be stupid and naive to NOT explore it.
Why support a $1.03 (yes, he was actually right on that statistic) budget on a military that really provides nothing? When we can dump our money into science and education so we can LEARN something about ourselves and how the Universe around us works. If we know more, we can create more technology to make the future of our lives more easier.
There's no need to be completely ignorant about the statement this other Anon made, he has a point, your view on Curiosity is the most silly view ever. It's not just pictures, it's a robot that can collect dust and study it. There's whole other worlds out there with potential exploration and you want to sit here and support the idea of staying ignorant?
tl;dr: Too bad, read it anyway.
#164 - misteranderson (08/28/2012) [-]
Well space exploration is all very well and good, but the point is that the money can be spent if fields that are much more important to attend to.
Discovering new things outside of our planet is great, and events such as the first moon landing will me remembered probably for the rest of time. I just don't believe that it can be justified spending the amount of money the space program has spent when the world we currently live on and will continue to live on for many years to come has so many issues.
Financial problems, homelessness, poverty, war, discrimination and environmental sustainability are all current problems that I feel need to be addressed before we explore the galaxy to discover other great new things.
You make some good points, and I don't have the time to think of an argument against some of them, but I just don't think that space exploration is an absolute necessity.
Oh and I know of course that that the rover doesn't just take pictures, but how much can we learn from dust on a lifeless planet? If we can find water, good for us, but there certainly won't be anywhere near as much as there is on Earth.
#166 - anonymous poster (08/28/2012) [-]
You make very good points here too.
Although I'm only speaking on American economics. If we cut our military budget in half we could take all that money and fix those issues. But apparently the American government have other ideas in mind. -_-
Otherwise, I think Education, Science, Healthcare so on should get the highest funding. I mean we've made some great strides as humans in the years....this is 2012....we seriously need to stop killing each other in wars....I mean I know that's impossible. But forcing a doctrine into society of taking the peaceful route over the warmongering one I think would be good.
But oh well, hopefully in the next few decades we'll come to terms in smartness and attempt to fix this planet.
#167 - misteranderson (08/28/2012) [-]
War does take a huge toll on all parties, and it would be a much better world without it, but there's not much we can do to stop it really. It supplies jobs and so on as well, but I agree that if we took the military budget for 1 year from all of the world's militaries, we could pretty much fix almost all current problems.
It's been a pleasure debating with you anon, it's nice to find intelligent life on this site.
Have a good one.

USA POP 350 MILLION. UK POP 60 MILLION. USA GOLDS 44. UK GOLDS 29. USA IS CRAP.
#169 - anepicnub (08/20/2012) [-]
Wait, I don't understand how the population of a country even matters. The same amount of people take part in the olympics. Usain Bolt represents Jamaica which has a population of around 2.7 million people. What you are saying is similar to saying "His daddy makes more money so he is better than me at sports because he gets to practice with cooler stuff." Population and gold medals are two things that should never be compared. Similar to money and talent.
#166 - anonymous poster (08/20/2012) [-]
by that logic china and india should be kicking everyone asses like a russian in a bar fight
also you don't really hear a whole bunch about UK athelites do you but then again it could be because of the fact i live in the USA don't get burt hurt cuz your country got the crap beat outta them at the olympics also since when has the UK launched anything to the moon or mars they might have but i'v yet to hear about it
