theres a difference between having a large vocabulary and trying to be a smart asshole. i tend to use larger words too but this fucker went out of his way to try and sound smart. that is what really pissed me off.

after reading the first sentence and finding the "your" mistake, i couldn't even be bothered going on..
i felt it couldn't have enough substance.

I had to analyse a poem about an officer who lied about a soldiers death to to soldiers
mother, to spare her the pain of knowing her son was a coward. Our English teacher
said that the meaning of the poem was that all soldiers were actually cowards, and how
the mothers of the dead soldiers were the real brave ones.

Yeh, my grammar and spelling were terrible there sorry. Heres the poem.

'The Hero'- by Siegfrid Sassoon.
'Jack fell as he'd have wished,' the mother said, and folded up the letter that she'd read.
'The Colonel writes so nicely.' Something broke In the tired voice that quavered to a choke.
She half looked up. 'We mothers are so proud of our dead soldiers.' Then her face was bowed.

Quietly the Brother Officer went out. He'd told the poor old dear some gallant lies
That she would nourish all her days, no doubt for while he coughed and mumbled, her weak eyes
Had shone with gentle triumph, brimmed with joy, because he'd been so brave, her glorious boy.

He thought how 'Jack', cold-footed, useless swine, had panicked down the trench that night the mine
Went up at Wicked Corner; how he'd tried to get sent home, and how, at last, he died,
Blown to small bits. And no one seemed to care, except that lonely woman with white hair.

I'd probably say the poem is more of a criticism of the romanticism we often view war with, rather than the soldiers themselves. They told the mother about this heroic battle he died in, but really he was miserable huddling in the trenches, and died ignominiously by being unlucky enough to step on a mine. It starkly contrasts how we imagine soldiers always fighting bravely to the ugly reality of war, which mostly consists of sitting around doing nothing in places that suck.

However, they also have a right to not defend themselves, if they so choose.
