We know less the a tenth of a % of all the knowledge in the universe. How can you say that God is without a doubt fake?
User avatar #184 - jukuku (03/24/2014) [-]
I never claimed that I know beyond a doubt that god exists. I said that religion holds no ground beyond faith, as in, we do not have any evidence supporting the idea of an omnipresent, omnipotent deity.

Lack of evidence is reason enough not to believe.

A picture was created in my mind when at catholic class, the teacher told us that Jesus went to hell to save all the sinning souls, from the beginning of time.
The picture was of Jesus fighting all of hell's demons and eventually the devil himself in order to free all the occupants of hell.
Jesus went full Neo then.

Take it as inspiration. For those of us who desire to be true artists of pen and language, currency is in the quality of our stories, not in what others will give to us for them.
Remember, you can do anything to get money. The real question is, can you create a story that can make a man weep with joy and scream with anguish? Can you pull your readers into the very depths of their under-stimulated imaginations, to the edges of consciousness and understanding, to the very pits of emptiness?
Can you, a mere human, reach deep into the heart of the void before existence, and drag forth into this world creatures and characters, landscapes and things?

Because when you can do that, you realize it's never been about money. It's been about the life you create. And that kind of helps get you money.

That was fantastic. As an aspiring writer with doubt of my own capability, I have been writing less and less. Your comment, however, has caused me to be revitalized as a writer. That's true enough. I agree it should be increased, but i'd say $9 an hour is probably reasonable. At my job, they pay our lowest employees $9 an hour. Well, if they're there at least 3 months. It's a bit odd that it's actually higher than most employees in the same type of store if i'm not mistaken.

I work at a new thrift store chain sprouting up over here. First retail job ever, and 4 months in they promoted me to being a key holder. I could live comfortably with a 50 cent to 1$ an hour pay raise. Comfortably being, with food, money to spare, driving to work and all other necessary places, and having decent internet. While being able to fuel my hookah habit.

I've been fired from jobs, been in a job slump. After high school i had to drive to So.Cal. and dismantle old oil pumps. I've had to do some pretty hard labor in my 2 years out of high school. But the service industry is a broad spectrum and the food service industry just doesnt fall under the same productivity rate. factory and warehouse jobs have no guaranteed growth but at times, they can raise the pay rates and give bonuses. but the food service industry can really only look forward to travel seasons and the occasional new menu item. other than that there isnt much growth expected cause those are limited time things. Don't get me wrong, a raise in minimum wage would benefit people, but i know that what i did for taco bell and genghis grill wasn't worth 15 per hour. although, genghis grill could use better health insurance.
User avatar #384 - charredenay (03/08/2014) [-]
Travel seasons? New food items? No. The food-service industry makes profit every single quarter. Especially in metropolitan areas where there is no down time, only slightly slower time. You are greatly misinformed if you think the restaurant business is anything less than insanely lucrative.

well, wal mart is one one that says they cant, its been proven that they cant, yet people still think they can. Mcdonalds most likely can, i dont do the math, but think about how many people they employ, ALL of them. Think about the cost of food, supplies, etc. thats a lot more money than you think it is.
User avatar #313 - spankyy (03/08/2014) [-]
I agree with the anon, raising minimum wage to 15$ an hour will not fix everything. I agree that it should be higher, but not 15$. That being said, I heard once that if McDonalds charged something like 40-50 cents more per burger, they'd be able to pay their workers 15$ an hour. All of them. Since they sell so many damn burgers daily.
User avatar #325 - charredenay (03/08/2014) [-]
I'm willing to grant the "not as much as $15per hour" point. but that is starting point we must adopt for proper negotiations to begin. No smart man starts the bidding at the price they were hoping for.

fast food makes 7.25
i make 8 per hour.
I was in high school and didn't need to ask for a raise.
and my manager constantly loses her workers cause they either can't handle the stress or they just use it as a gap filler till they get something better. I'm just using it till i get through college. even then, like you said, it'll be hard to get a job.
It's never been easy to get a job, but people do it.
#428 - xxxsonic fanxxx (03/08/2014) [-]
That's all fast food jobs are supposed to be - a gap filler. They're not supposed to be careers where people make the same money for unskilled labor as people who worked hard to earn college degrees.
User avatar #319 - charredenay (03/08/2014) [-]
You're missing my point. The only industry that has guaranteed jobs and guaranteed growth that doesn't require at least a master's degree is the service industry. I have met biology majors and computer science majors and even failed medical students all employed in the service industry because they couldn't get a shot elsewhere and they had been at that job for more than a decade just trying to pay the rent on their rat-infested one-bedroom apartments. And you're sitting there feeling superior simply because you haven't tasted failure yet. It's stupefying, it's awe-inspiring, it's almost hypocritical.

It would seriously fuck up the economy when companies gouge you with steep product prices to make up for it, and cut employees. It would end real bad.
User avatar #307 - charredenay (03/08/2014) [-]
Oh wait. So you're saying that charging double what they used to for specialized orders is not a jump in pricing?
Fact is that most major companies can afford this minimum-wage increase because they have been gradually increasing their prices every year while the minimum-wage has been the same for decades.
User avatar #315 - corocop (03/08/2014) [-]
