I am not overweight, but you may believe what you want.

But, amidst all your fat mongering you seem to have misunderstood my point. I'm not justifying obesity. I'm just calling for equality. Skinny people mock fat people consistently because they feel superior, which is moronic. When you mock a person for being fat, it's because you're probably insecure about yourself in some way. No happy, mentally stable individual mocks another human because of their physical state.
#353 - chaoticwaffle (11/07/2013) [-]
That's one side of it, of course you could also see it as the person in question having let go of themselves to such a degree that people mock them. People mock druggies and drunks, these people have issues with control or addiction. Food addiction and inability to control yourself are actual things, and honestly if someone lets themselves go to such a point that they've got three chins I can't say I'm gonna stick up for them.

I won't go out of my way to insult them or bring it up; nor am I saying it's morally okay to insult them, but I can see why it happens. I can't say it bothers me enough to take part in it either way, but the people mocking them didn't force them to gorge themselves.
User avatar #360 - infinitezero (11/07/2013) [-]
You're contradicting yourself left and right. Society doesn't reward drunks or smokers? Then why is there a smoking section in most restaurants? Why are there Alcoholics Anonymous meetings everywhere? You asserted that food addiction was a real thing. Then why is the support and help for it far less prominent than support for smoking and alcohol addiction?

Society looks down upon obesity in a way that we don't look down upon smokers, or alcoholics. We all eat food. So, therefore, the ones able to control their weight feel superior to those who are not able to do so. People who don't smoke or drink profusely don't understand that addiction, so we have more compassion for people who succumb to it. There's rehab centers in nearly every city across big the country. But, rehab for food addiction? There's no such help, and that's why I don't understand the hate. Just because you can eat one big mac, and not four, doesn't make you superior.

But still, everything is classed as a opportunity. The opportunity to be born in the first-world, the ability to be born to learn the knowledge, the materials, the money and the space. Nothing can be classed without it being a opportunity, well by your logic.
#152 - chaoticwaffle (10/08/2013) [-]
It's implied that the opportunity in question is relevant to the knowledge you wish to use. The opportunity to make toast will have no impact on your ability to use your knowledge of how to make an atom bomb for example.

Sure, everything is an opportunity to do something, but you're trying to push the point even though the opportunities you're talking about having nothing to do with the subject at hand.

Okay say you know how to build an atomic bomb and you want to destroy a city. You do not have the connections, money, materials, or space to construct the bomb. Though you have the knowledge to create the bomb you don't have the opportunity to do so, making the knowledge useless to you.

I suppose you could state there are two types of opportunity; One of purely luck and one of that you create. The example you stated before with breaking bad with the opportunity to sell it the drugs, you could easily say that with knowledge he would be able to find people quickly and easily to sell drugs.
#79 - chaoticwaffle (10/07/2013) [-]
In both cases he needs the opportunity to put his knowledge to use, whether by luck or by creating the opportunity himself.

I would say knowledge increases your chances or possibilities of making it to a position of power
User avatar #43 - joeyliquid (10/07/2013) [-]
I disagree. Opportunity is easily reached from hard work which also creates knowledge. Wating for opportunity is simply inviting the world to pass by you. Earn it.
#66 - chaoticwaffle (10/07/2013) [-]
I didn't state the specifics of where the opportunity comes from. It could happen by mere chance, or you could work to open the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge you have.

Let's take a show you that many people enjoy, Breaking Bad. Walter White had the knowledge of how to make crystal meth, however this knowledge did nothing for him without the opportunity to sell it.
