Well if you want, I could recommend some lesser-known movies

Cashback: A british film about this art guy who stops sleeping after he breaks up with his gf. So he gets a night job at a grocery store, and romances a coworker. He also can stop time because why the fuck not. Lots of nudity (he uses the stopped time to undress shoppers and draw them) and funny shit (2 of his coworkers are idiots.)

Monsters: Alternate timeline: When we went to the moon, we found there were giant squid aliens living there. When we came back from the moon, the rocket burned up in orbit, and the squids fell in Mexico, so the entire top half of Mexico is a quarantine zone. This photographer has to get his boss's daughter from Mexico to the US, but they have to go through the giant-death-squid zone to get there. Totally not a metaphor for immigration or anything. It's not too much of an action/comedy, but it's still pretty good.

Also parts science is obviously falsified at times, which is why there's always a shift in paradigm's in science. Creationism on the other hand is not only falsified in a couple of parts, but falsified in it's entirety.
User avatar #117 - kanadetenshi (03/23/2014) [-]
Of evolution? Name me some examples, because while there have been obviously errors as have every scientific field they're never swept under the rug and generally it's evolutionary biologists that falsify these. Proving something scientifically wrong is the same as falsifying, while science may always improve in the future it will always remain a fact that creationism is wrong because the evidence is too obvious, it's like assuming that a flat earth might be right in the future.
User avatar #150 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
By swept under the rug i mean that no one makes a big deal of a scientist intentional creating false data. While creationists are publicly slammed comparatively speaking every time some new bit of evidence comes up showing they are wrong or that they intentionally made something up. And dont be so stupid, you are either smart or good with google so im hoping smart, so dont suddenly become so stupid as to think there has never been a scientist who never made shit up for money.

What if the world if flat, what if babies are delivered by storks, what if gravity is caused by a invisible man pushing us down? Literalist creationism in itself is simply not science and has been falsified by almost every single field of science. So why would we even waste talking about it on a show about science.
User avatar #115 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
Well I have seen dozens of scientific studies falsified or the findings twisted to fit what was required. And they too get found out. But those are quietly swept under the rug. But also yes, litteral creationism is a bit hard to swallow, but you also used the word falsified wrong. They proved it scientifically to be wrong. With our present understanding of science. in 1000 years our species may look back in wonder of how small our minds were, in 10k years we may play god and create life on another planet and attempt to guide it.

Narrow? not at all, as I said... I AM religious, please learn to read. Although I am not christian I follow more of a philosophy BUT if creationists were right, if they genuinely were AND they could provide any kind of scrap of evidence then I would shake their hand and convert on the spot. Science is open minded but it is also reasonable and rational, just because they could possibly be right does not mean they have any evidence, facts or proof, They are as potentially right as the flying spaghetti monster and an afterlife having a cup of tea with Cthulu. And you are completely wrong. The only people you can't debate are extremists, of any faith or point of view and it has nothing to do with what they believe. A persons brain is wired to ensure well being and from a biological perspective that comes with beliefs too, if a person is confronted with an idea that genuinely makes them uncomfortable due to fear or any number of issues, their brain literally turns off their ability to reason in favour of solidifying the basis that makes them feel at ease. We literally lie to ourselves because we are scared to face something that makes us feel insignificant which is why science is at its peak, scientists generally follow a methodology that allows them to keep an open mind, we follow facts, observable information and reasonability in order to come to a realistic conclusion that is supported by every facet of our currently conceivable surroundings. So why on earth is it a good thing to hold back humanity like in the dark ages just because a bunch of people are too scared to face some basic realities. And it has nothing to do with the governments, it has to do with trying to make people all feel completely catered to, the government does not want to make things one sided as that causes unrest so the stupid are perpetuating stupidity. All people need to do is open their minds or keep their opinions to the proper areas, religion has its own class where it belongs until proven

nothing to do with point of view, the show is about facts that we know and theories that are pushing our understanding forward not about making people feel included. Religion is not based on proof or reason, it is based on belief and I can clearly say that as I am religious and trying to become a scientist. Creationism has nothing and I mean absolutely nothing to do with science. Science is using observable facts to widen our understanding not to make information fit a theory we want, it evolves and changes with time.
User avatar #101 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
Thats cute. You keep such a narrow perspective to think with. What if the creationists are right? What if some god made this universe and actually did all that shit? what if some cosmic entity snickered as he set off a cosmic firecracker and boom theres the universe ever expanding? Now get off that high horse and admit though you cant debate a creationist with scientific facts and you cant debate a scientists with faith based on a god. The two are mutually exclusive till we become something better than what we are now. Screaming at eachother is childish and really they shouldnt get an episode, but if they did the way i mentioned would be the most civil way to do it. Creationist bring faith, scientists bring facts, and let people decide. If you are worried people are too stupid blame the governments for allowing our schools to be so shit,

User avatar #152 - kanadetenshi (03/23/2014) [-]
Ofcourse there has been, but like i said it's never sweeped under the rug and it's always found out by other scientists. Again give me an example of forged evidence for evolution that's sweeped under the rug and still talked about in modern textbooks.
User avatar #154 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
you mentioned evolution before, i still dont know what your talking about. Where did i say anything bout evolution? Im not sure what im supposed to defend here. Btw once my download is done im going to stop arguing cause my bf wants to play aion lol.
User avatar #157 - kanadetenshi (03/23/2014) [-]
Because the entire conversation is about evolution and creationism.
User avatar #164 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
Im sorry i didnt mean to mislead you. Im not sure what im arguing anymore im just responding lol. I think i originaly said, that if the creationists really want on cosmos then they should either be allowed present their side without the scientific community just slaping them in the face, or if the scientific community wants to slap away they should expect to be slapped back. Really though they shouldn't go on it would be a terrible idea.
User avatar #168 - kanadetenshi (03/23/2014) [-]
The thing is creationism isn't science, evolution is. That's why evolution is talked about in a science program and creationism is not.
User avatar #171 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
Thats another good reason too. This is a science show. The creationists have shows too. Ofcourse if they wanna swap episodes one day i pitty the fools who do so.
User avatar #144 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
I dont think you know what falsified means.
User avatar #148 - kanadetenshi (03/23/2014) [-]
There are two definitions. One is falsified in the sense that it's forged, the other one is based on Karl Popper's principle of falsification. I'm talking about the second sense where falsified means disproven.

thats some stupid shit to say, cosmos is a scientific tv program, if you want your own weird Creationism on tv make your own shitty show
User avatar #143 - carneymaster (03/23/2014) [-]
yes, it is stupid, i said that somewhere in here among these comments.

Narrow? not at all, as I said...

Unless you're a woman with a kid, you just contradicted your original statement that you could walk into a welfare office and make more money than you currently make at your job.

Also no mention of cash assistance, which means that you're already aware that someone in your position cannot, in point of fact, make more money by not having a job.

Finally, you mentioned food stamps. (WIC is only for those with children and it doesn't actually "pay" anything--it amounts to a small amount of food per month, maybe $50-$100 in food per month.) Assuming you're a single adult, you can expect to make slightly less than $2,000 a year in food stamps, no cash assistance unless you're in a Back To Work program, and about $1,200, rounding up, in WIC assistance.

So, where do you work that you're paid less than $4,000 a year and you're paid only in food?

(May I assume that I was correct to say that you've never stepped food inside a welfare office?)

Those jobs don't actually require someone who's smart; they require someone will a particular amount of specialized technical training. You can have an IQ of 90 and still rightfully train for the kind of positions you're talking about. But yes, those jobs exist. I strongly believe that the public sector and the private sector should come to some sort of accord to start training the unemployed for those exact positions. (Think Job Training Partnership Act of 1982, signed by President Reagan.)

I don't mean to be rude, but the whole idea that anybody can just waltz into a welfare office and start making upwards of $15,000 a year by doing nothing is only held by those who have never stepped foot inside a welfare office and based entirely on vague impressions of people whose situations you probably don't understand well enough to judge. In my State, NY, you receive no cash assistance whatsoever unless you're already working (and still below the poverty line--which is the case for literally millions of Americans) otherwise you get thrown in the Back To Work program, which is essentially mindless tasks (such as shredding paper for hours, and I mean that literally) and group meetings where the attendees are people who have ruined their lives through alcohol and substance abuse and need a therapist more than a job training program.

come move to florida, if you have worked atleast 6 weeks and got fired, quit, w/e you qualify for food stamps, if your a woman in the same position with a kid you also get wic. You also qualify for medicaid by claiming you qualify. they will not challenge you on this. If you are having trouble paying rent and dont have a job you can get help there too. Need money to put your kid in daycare they will help with that too. And you get this assistance for 99 weeks. However, once that 99 weeks is up it suddenly somehow becomes almost impossible to get back on unless you just repeatedly bug them.
