 The nearest black hole is (I think) about 3,000 light years away. We'll be fine. What you should worry about is the Earth getting smacked with a giant meteorite, which is practically guaranteed to happen at least several times before we go anywhere near a black hole.  we could leave, hopefully if we knew such an event was going to occur in say 100 years, humanity would pool together and divert all efforts away from busines, wars, petty shit and worked on leaving the earth, we'd be able to depart earth and send a ship or ships to another world where we would be able to start again or due to impending doom anarchy would ensue and the world would go to shit, then be crushed in a black hole  Except leave, which we would have a shitload of time to do, since there isn't any black holes near us. We would have enough time to prepare interstellar ships, which are probably only going to be good for one way trips, but hey, we wouldn't need to go back.  Except there might be. The problem with black holes is that their black, as in give off no light. Only reason we see them is because they suck in stuff that does give light, or alter the light that things behind it give off. If a black hole isn't sucking anything up, we don't see it. So there could be a black hole creeping up to us, we wouldn't see it, and suddenly you would wake up one day to find the sun suddenly wasn't there anymore before we all died a horrible frozen death, or got sucked up into the black hole too. We would see the gravitational lensing effect quite clearly if it was that close. And unless we got REALLY close, it would just behave as another star, and star collisions are extremely rare.  not to mention the relativity aspect of it, the closer we get on approach to the black hole the less the rest of the universe will age in comparison. if we could make a spacecraft that could escape the pull we could have a situation where an unformed or uninhabited planet near where we exit becomes habitable. If we got close enough that it becomes relevant, we are pretty much fucked | ||
