So you get absolute free healthcare for no reason other than your race, but feel others should stop bitching about the new system because they're forced to pay for theirs.

I don't think you have any place on the issue since you don't have to experience the problem of actually having to afford health insurance. YOU'RE taken care of and don't have to pay for it, so yeah it sounds good just the way it is TO YOU.
#101 - anonymous (12/13/2013) [-]
Someone has to pay for this thing. There are roughly 300k people singed up for it out of the estimated 7 million that need to be to break even. Out of that 300k, I am sure there are not many healthy people as the people that cant get health care want it badly.

The next step is Obama bailing out the insurance companies which comes out of our pockets.

Also, life lesson, taxes rarely ever go down for any reason. If there is a reason to lower them, most often they will never do it. Demo or repub, the government is fking corrupt.
User avatar #86 - ineptinevitability (12/13/2013) [-]
I actually think it's much more complicated than that. Consider how Medicare and Medicaid already existed and how, as you said, govt would pay for emergency room fees. Not to mention all the massive corporate subsidies and corporate protection laws. This sort of thing entails a problem: No liability. The corporations don't have liability to the consumer, because the govt already has a lot of it taken care of. The non liability goes into matters of healthcare and pharmaceutical pricing. The healthcare corps can jack up there prices, because every state is an oligopoly, due to govt regs. Big pharma can jack up their prices because they know between jacked up health care prices and govt subsidies, they can jack up their own prices too. Also, big pharma is heavily monopolized as a result of the FDA and govt licensing for medicine. I think everyone can agree that non-natural monopolies and oligopolies are bad and that they are the main contributor to our healthcare problems. and Im out of c
User avatar #71 - thegamerslife (12/13/2013) [-]
You're naive if you think taxes are coming down. prices don't come back down they only progress upwards. If they know they can get X amount of tax out of you, they are going to continue to get X amount from you.
As a native american I am surprised at your acceptance of this, but then again you already said it makes no difference to you. either way, I want AHA gone. Did you ever ask yourself while writing this "why does a simple emergency visit cost so much in the first place?" no, probably not. I think we should have our health care system privatized. I don't trust the gov to handle my health or telling me where I can and can't go to see doctors (which is exactly what happens to me now if I sign up for this crap (Which I refuse to do) I get defaulted to medicare).
User avatar #70 - akkere (12/13/2013) [-]
The idea behind the bill would be much better if they stuck to a single-payer plan. We would've saved perhaps hundreds of billions while preventing the strain that's being put on small businesses and the whole platform in general from ever happening. This whole thing with adhering to private insurance companies isn't helping with anything, and after looking at the corporate deals that have apparently been going on with the presidency behind our backs, it's pretty obvious this wasn't set up for the American people's best intentions.

We can only hope that this bill gets some serious facelifts and reforms to make something much more suitable, without losing the actual central purpose to having it (i.e. a more ideal universal healthcare).

I agree with most of what you say. However you say the only way it will work is if younger people sign up to take the burden. You put money into the pool throughout your life, paying for most of the older people, then when you get old (and need more healthcare) the money is there for you. However, that is how insurance has always worked- even before Obamacare. Also it looks worse, as the execution is fucking terrible.

However, my main two problems with Obamacare are:
(1) the bait and switch feeling of it. "you can keep your current plan if you like it." (Later) Well you can only keep it if it conforms to the conditions that you were unable to know about at the time the former statement was made, so fuck you. Many people with good coverage are unable to keep it.
(2) It puts a real strain on small businesses (while it claims the opposite). It is cheaper to pay the fine (for not providing full time employees with health care) than it is to provide them healthcare, or they can just reduce the hours of full time employees from 40 to 39. This severely reduces the incentive for (usually small) businesses to offer full time positions for employees.
You are 100% right about one thing though. As with all things, only time will tell. We'll see how it plays out but I am obviously skeptical. You make good points though.
User avatar #74 - thegamerslife (12/13/2013) [-]
you bring up a good point I forgot about. I've watched the vast majority of jobs in my county switch from many full time positions to huge amounts of part time positions. Now people are having to take up 2-4 jobs to make 40 hours a week here and our unemployment went right back up past 9% in November when we were having a solid year of decline(we got down to 7-7.5% if I remember right). This plan has drastically altered the employment opportunities in my state from what I can tell and I no longer have a single friend who works 1 job for 40 hours a week... it's fucked up.
#67 - captchakid (12/13/2013) [-]

(I'll mention captchakid so he sees the explanation)

No I didn't mean anything else. Here in Sweden EVERYONE is so afraid of being called racists.
An example of this thing is that When school ends for the year they play the swedish anthem song, and they say "sing along" but you dont really have to.

This got banned for being racist.

And this is not an "extreme case" or anything.
Everything that is not 100% pro immigrants is racist.

Another example is a thing that news station does.
If someone commits a crime, and there is a photo of them the press will have that photo in the news right? Thats good.
But if the one that commited the crime is black, they will brighten the pixelated face and so on just so it doesnt look like someone black, because that would be racist.
Pic related, may be a little confusing with all the swedish tho...
User avatar #467 - hudis (12/13/2013) [-]
That's ridiculous. And yes, it is an extreme case. I am from Sweden, I am fully ethnically Nordic and I fully disagree with you. Throughout my childhood and teens, singing the national anthem was never a big deal in any way. In fact, when I graduated and we sang the national anthem, guess who sang the loudest? The immigrants.

As for the newspaper thing, I don't know what piece of shit newspapers you read but if I just recollect the last few years there have been immigrants related to crime in the news just as often as there have been white people.

Getting sick of this bullshit constantly thrown about by SD-supporters. There are debates about immigration in schools all the time, there are television programs taking in-depth looks at immigration and both its benefits and flaws every month, go to the city for a day and I can guarantee you will hear a number of people you're passing by discussing immigration policies without anyone yelling racist.

Yes, people are afraid to be called racist. Is that because it is considered racist to be critical of immigration? No, it's because assholes like Jimmie Åkesson lay claim to anything remotely Swedish and base their entire political agenda on victimising themselves while demonising immigrants. Ugh.
#468 - johnnybing (12/13/2013) [-]
Everyone is scared for being called racist.

And I do know that it isnt the immigrants that are complaining about anything here.
Its just Sweden in all.

Were I live it is like this atleast.

And no Im not a sd supporter, Im s all the way, but I do understand why so many vote for sd.
User avatar #477 - hudis (12/13/2013) [-]
I just don't think it's relevant anymore. The controversy surrounding Swedish national pride and the flag, the anthem etc. peaked and fell in the 1990s during and after the Yugoslav Wars due to the influx of immigration we had then. Immigration suddenly became something people talked about, and it wasn't easy to understand since we hadn't exactly shouldered the role yet - not entirely, anyway.

Since then, the only people (and I mean the only people) I've ever heard talking about it are basically middle-aged working class men who are always going on about how, "Man kan ju fö'fan inte ens ha svenska flaggan på balkongen!" or, "Det är ju så mörkt ute nuförtiden så man kan inte öppna käften utan att kallas rasist, höhö!" while they crack open another beer and watch the Sweden vs. Portugal game or the Simpsons or whatever. Yeah, that's an exaggeration and a stereotype, but it's one that fits tremendously well when it comes to this, in my experience. People are stuck in the past. Gives them a scapegoat, I guess.
#487 - johnnybing (12/13/2013) [-]
Imo its relevant especially with sd being the 3rd biggest party atm.

I dont know where you live but where I live they talk about this a lot.
Its probably mostly because the city I live in was overflowing with nazis and such in the 80s (which turned into sd now..)

Im to tired to talk about politics atm, so if anything just sounds really stupid, Im sorry
User avatar #488 - hudis (12/13/2013) [-]
Yeah, me too, I am sitting here with a fever so I may not be 100% coherent either. But yeah, I guess it depends a lot on where you live. My town is pretty much 50/50 immigrants and Swedes, and for the most part people get along wonderfully although there is quite a lot of segragation still. That's the biggest problem, really. Segragation.
#491 - johnnybing (12/13/2013) [-]
Places like rosengård helps with these problems 100% right ;)
User avatar #493 - hudis (12/13/2013) [-]

Yes Sweden has a lot of great things.
But this one thing, nope.

I think its a very big "shadownumber" Dont know what to call it in english really.. over how many swedish people who are upset over this.
Because a "racist" party Sd - Sverigedemokraterna - Democrats of Sweden (I think it would be) is the third largest with around 10% of all the votes...
