what if I told you that there is a reason why there very often is a little line on the F and the J key. yeah you guessed right. This subject you're talking about

So they learn the position of the keys on the keyboard without ever looking at it?
User avatar #223 - zerotzallander (11/12/2013) [-]
I think they learn the thing called "touch typing" which is what that home position is involved in

I'm pretty sure Braille is dots and not little lines

The main reason for the first comment was because I know of those courses and didn't investigate further due to thinking it was because of that. Good thing that johnnybing were to enlighten me. Thanks Johnnybing

No problem
Friends of mine always comment on how I "position" my fingers wrong, just because I dont use "the lines"...
User avatar #216 - zerotzallander (11/12/2013) [-]
Never used this home position myself I generally know the keyboard from gaming anyways. Which is why I'm not in need of it. If change of keyboard all hell brakes loose and I make bunch of typos.

At my education I use stationary computer. At home a laptop. (being used to the laptop those huge buttons makes it so much "harder" writing) I preffer the small buttons!
#219 - johnnybing (11/12/2013) [-]
For me its the opposite, can't stand those small buttons, and even worse is that they're like a big "plain"...

User avatar #213 - zerotzallander (11/12/2013) [-]
Never wrote that Braille was lines though. I know that there's courses for the blind where this home position is used.
#52 - johnnybing (11/11/2013) [-]
But that's not the reason for the lines being there...

The real reason is that those are there to help you find the "home" position on the keyboard. That way your hands remain properly oriented on the keyboard.

Home position is ASDF(LEFT HAND) AND JKL;(RIGHT HAND)

Not saying that it doesn't help blind people but blind people aren't the reason for them...

didn't know they can write in braille

my next question then, how did the teacher read it? did he tell her, then whats the point of writing it?
#23 - shareacokewith (11/11/2013) [-]
The blind don't necessarily write in Braille either, there is a blind kid in my university course, and he writes using a special laptop that has buttons indicating where the navigation letters are. He also has a microphone on it that can be used to automatically type, and uses headphones so that they computer files can be read automatically to him.

I won't thumb your first comment down because I don't think you meant any harm, but it is a bit ignorant to assume blind people can't write anything.
User avatar #17 - camslayer (11/11/2013) [-]
You can get like a braille typewriter thing, and each letter has a braille counter part so its not to complicated.

Well, a bit of back story.

So my step dad was a cop, and one of the best on the entire force in the very small town. Now because he was such a good cop, the sheriff at the time thought that my step dad was going to take his job away from him. The sheriff tried every way to get rid of us from "random police calls" to checking the house when he knew my parents were out of the house and it was only me and my brother. One time, my parents were on a date and the sheriff just happens to stop by looking for my mom, and then just parks his ass on the sofa (and because we were only 5 (me) and 7 (brother) at the time, we didn't know he couldn't do that.

So as time went on, my step dad got raises, made it good with the mayor, and all that stuff, so one day (and this is from the stories my mom told me about when I asked her about the old town and why we moved) the sheriff poured lighter fluid in our old rabbit cage outside on a dry day, and dropped a match into it thinking the entire house would go up in flames. Unfortunately for him, there wasn't enough stuff to burn in the rabbit cage to spread to the house, so it just burn the cage to hell.

We quickly moved after that, but not after my step dad slammed the extremely heavy solid steel door on the sheriff's hand.

Funny thing though that we found out last year.

He died. In a fire accident. While working in an illegal chop shop for stolen cars. The motor oil spilled on him, he lit on fire, and burned to death.

Karma is a great thing sometimes.

Yes but now you have this knowledge and they don't, and once they report what happened they will most likely tell the insurance company that only 3 of their tires were slashed and then they would have to tell them that their insurance does not cover that. Once they have reported that it would be oddly suspicious if the 4th one got magically harmed.
#7 - creepycreeper (11/04/2013) [-]
Isn't that called insurance fraud?
User avatar #10 - messerauditore (11/04/2013) [-]
How are they going to prove you did it? If someone's going to slash your tires, chances are they don't know to only slash 3.
