My transition is completely on the economic axis, I have always been very pro-civil liberties.

The change was pretty gradual actually, nothing radical at all. I was a member of the left-most mainstream political party in Canada from 2011 to the beginning of 2013. Roughly 2 years. During that time, I also began taking political science, economics, and philosophy courses at the University, as well as studying it myself once and a while on my spare time.

I was an activist with the left-of-centre political party (it is called the New Democratic Party if you care to look it up). Anyhow, the New Democrats on campus were radicals. I'm talking Democratic Socialists, Marxists, and Commies. I would regularly argue with them. The more I educated myself, the more and more I began to realize I am not meant for the left-wing.

At the beginning of last year, I quit the party and considered myself a principled moderate, as I explored various political ideology and economics. During this time, I became a lot less political, and spent more time exploring my hobbies and interests. I also began dating my fiancée.

When my fiancée returned to Brazil to finish her education, we began the immigration process--and that was where it got personal. It is extremely bureaucratic, costly, and full of unnecessary red-tape. Not only is the government seperating families and loved ones in the name of "national security" however they are also preventing employers from hiring foreigners to fill positions where we have labour shortages because the bureaucratic backlog.

I'm exploring Libertarianism and Classical Liberalism a lot, and would say I've adopted a non-authoritative right-of-centre position. I'm not all that fond of Keynesian or Socialist economics. I am fond of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School. If you know your stuff, you would know that Milton was an adviser to Reagan. I've been debating joining the conservative party here.

Actually, 'there's no such thing as a free lunch' is one of my favorite things to say.
This is a great development, man. I'm really happy for you. Stick it them commies!

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with being socially liberal and economically conservative. I consider myself to be under that category, so I guess we're just two peas in a pod. You just too a bit longer to stop calling yourself a carrot.
