Summed up well. Only thing which isn't really true when you put it into perspective is Mercy having "massive single target heal", because compared to Ana's potential it falls completely flat. Mercy is maybe just more consistent in applying her healing, since you don't need to aim, but the higher the skill level, the more likely an Ana will outheal a Mercy.
Additionally and not related to your post per se, Ana pretty much outclasses Mercy in every aspect, she can defend herself way better and all her skills including her ultimate are both potential gamechangers, while Mercy in comparison can only offer somewhat better mobility (although Ana doesn't need to be super close to her teammates nor should she be) and of course her Resurrect - and good teams will always go for the Mercy first to prevent said Res. Mercy needs a second ability if you ask me, something like an AoE cleanse/heal, because she really lags behind the other three healers in terms of viability.
I may be a little biased being a mercy main
Agreed. The thing about mercy is her incredible consistency, but a good Ana beats a good Mercy easily overall. I still prefer Mercy's ult over Ana's since Ana's ult was nerfed, it is not as game changing as it was before.
I think mercy should have the highest "healing DPS" of the healers, mercy can't fight while she heals and can't do much combat-wise when she decides to fight. A mercy on the team basically means one less hero doing damage. If she's so focused on healing, so much that her skill is "fly towards an ally", making her the best healer (not support, healer) seems fitting. I think Mercy only sees play in many games because her healing is good and easy to keep consistent.
I agree with you that mercy is pretty bad compared to Ana in top tier games but Mercy has a great advantage because usually it's impossible to heal your tracer as Ana and also I love mercy's dps with her gun. She also has huge amounts of out of combat regen, and you forget the most important aspect: She can use a damage boost which isn't anything to laugh about. The flying to distant teammate is also an immense lifesaver and an amazing way to move around the map and heal everyone. Also Ana has to reload her gun but not mercy.
I almost always play in 3v3s and I usually pick mercy over Ana (Simply because I have shit aim), but I pick Ana when there's an enemy D.va or winston that can get in my face and gun me down, that way I can sleep them easily and run back to my team.
I agree with your points, I still think that the main thing about mercy is her consistency as a support. A good mercy will do a incredible job at keeping your team alive because she has all the tools to make it easier.
However, as of right now, all other healers are better than mercy in doing one of the things she does. Zenyatta outclasses her damage boost, ana her healing dps (it has been calculated, even with reloading, ana has higher healing dps) and lucio's mobilty and combat is better. And all other heroes have tools outside of healing that are very helpful, while mercy doesn't really. I would argue the damage boost is one fo these tools, but nowhere near as good as the others.
I think a hero being pocketed by mercy should become more of a threat than it currently is, after all, it is no longer a hero, its two. Better healing or combining damage and heal instead of alternating are some options.
Personally I would love any kind of cooldown ability for mercy, perhaps a healing or damaging (or both) nova, or some kind of small boost to healing or damage for a duration. Anything to spice up the playstyle would be fantastic.
But as I said, there's no way you can have as much healing per second on highly mobile targets with Ana, unless you're a god at aiming. And since I'm not very good at aiming in general I often keep missing my dps until they die (The grenade is good though)
Yeah, that's what I meant. Mercy has all the tools to assist her in healing consistently. I always love when someone gets mercy as support because I know that (unless the person sucks :]) I'll have decent heals.
I'm fine with her gameplay, but I'd love to see some new skills for her, to add depth to her character and the game.

No no, leave it like that, it actually made me laugh. Now I imagine the entirety of the population of Naboo replaced with baboons, flinging shit at the Droids and chasing Maul through the landscape.
