I do enjoy a thrilling tale....

It was the dead of the night, I had just enjoyed a small nightcap of my favourite brandy and was heading out of my study, across the hall towards my ajar bedroom door. Something at the back of my head alerted me that I never leave my bedroom door open, and as I live alone, something or someone must have opened it. The wind had not been strong that night so I quickly assumed there must be an intruder. Just as I came to this conclusion I felt pain upon unimaginable pain seep across the back of my head. I blacked out and knew no more.

I awoke on a very cold floor, surrounded by darkness. Memory soon flooded back to me and I leapt up, trying to find my attacker. Wincing I stopped moving and cradled the back of my head. There was a headdress preventing the wound from getting infected. Something moved in the shadows and I could not stay silent any longer. "Who are you?" I called, towards where I believed a person to be.

"The question is not who I am, the question is why have I brought you here? I will answer you in due course, but for now let's talk."

I cowered into a nearby corner as the voice moved towards me and shined a light right into my eyes. I could not see anything beyond the light and when I tried to close my eyes I only saw red dots. "What do you want?" I demanded, though in barely more than a whisper.

"Well, I want you to go to a certain thread, but I want it to seem accidental, a mere coincidence."

"And how exactly am I going to do that, if I decide to do it at all?" I asked, starting to get cocky.

"Well, if you don't do what I say, I will let the man who hit you back in here with his crowbar, he has shown a liking to seeing your blood you see."

"Okay fine, I'll do it, but how? Why?"

"I have invented a device for this occasion, it is called a roll. And this needs to be done, to save all mankind."

"Who are you?"

"Me, no one." And at that he removed the light and I saw him in all his glory, a monkey. He pushed a button and I fell, right here.
