Funnily enough, thats what we say about the petsmart near here. Ours is run like shit, but everyone joined because they like animals. Either way, try going to smaller scale, less corporate pet stores. There you're guaranteed that the people give a shit.

I stopped shopping, man. But yea, I can't say FOR SURE that it was dead. But the way they were bull shitting around it and not showing me really made me think it was for sure.
It wasn't responding to literally anything we were doing, I normally don't tap on the glass and I only did for a bit, but he didn't wake up after what I thought was possibly just a sleeping snake.
But my snake would wake up just from the vibrations of me moving around, so I HIGHLY doubt that snake wouldn't just sit there like that when I tap on the glass...

Again, even if we're busy and if we don't have the specialist in the store, we need to atleast check. I have to check on Satan our Cockatiel a couple of times a week because he'll lie down on the floor of his cage. And we check whenever he does it because we are never sure. If they just kept it shut, they knew it was dead and were just waiting to remove it.

Wouldn't those fish be in much larger bodies of water in nature? Seems weird that it would be stressed out by it.

From what I understand and I'm the dog trainer, not the aquatics expert they originated in the rice paddys and floodplains in Thailand. In the dry season, they apparently survive in much less water than most fish can, aggressively fighting for food and breathing from the surface using a special lung. So when the Thais started breeding them for fighting fish, they didn't put too much thought into container size. They've been doin it since the 1800s, so the fish we have are the outcome of 2 centuries of specified breeding forget the actual term .

Anyways, all I can say for certain is if you put a Betta in an empty 20 gallon tank, he'll have much more problems with his slime coat than a Betta in a 1 gallon tank. I keep seeing it happen when people want to "give it more room".

They weren't trying to return them, they didn't buy them our return policy is kinda weird too . They were trying to find someone else to take care of them because they didn't want to. And we can't just toss them back into the tanks because they've been outside the store. So our wellness room, which was supposed to be for sick animals, was filled with goldfish.
