Really? I thought Jackie Brown was great. Deathproof, however, was totally devoid of any form of plot. In fact the only film more lacking of storyline was probably The Rum Diary and to be honest they're probably tied in that respect.
User avatar #134 - brokensocialscene (06/05/2014) [-]
Jackie Brown was definitely done well and hold its own in artistic merit, but generally I found it to be lack-luster in comparison to his other films, purely due to the fact that I didn't find it very engaging. This movie is definitely not his best movie by any right but when you consider the whole it came from, Grindhouse, it was totally supposed to be a grimy, brutal, B-style thriller and Quentin Tarantino being the huge fan of that style that he is definitely saw this as an opportunity to have fun with his characters. Its definitely a thin plot and I think that's totally intentional just to give way to the fun of the movie in general. I love the characters in this movie just due to the fact that they all are so definable to themselves and actually have interesting dialogue, which apart from Samuel L Jackson and maybe Pam Grier, I can't really say that in relation to any character in Jackie Brown. Even so, I still enjoy both movies immensely

It was one of Tarantino's lesser films.
User avatar #133 - brokensocialscene (06/05/2014) [-]
No absolutely I agree, in terms of caliber of his previous works this movie is definitely not as fleshed out and as immersive as a classic Tarantino movie, but I also believe that was his intention. Grindhouse in general was supposed to be an homage to B-rated movies and their pulp style (much similar to the concept of pulp fiction itself), and is obviously a genre/ style/ idea that Tarantino is obsessed with. I absolutely love Tarantino and everything he's done so I may be biased, but as a film for what it is I do believe it served its purpose as a fun raunchy B-style movie that he obviously grew up with and has paid many homages to throughout his career
User avatar #22 - MasterManiac (06/04/2014) [-]
Seriously? It was two hours of women talking about their boyfriends and relationships with about ten minutes of action. If you are a Tarantino fan then avoid this film at all costs, it is easily the worst film he's ever directed.

Scary movie. But it's a part where they mock teh movie deathproof. The guy is a killer so in a way this is a good thing.

Looks like Deathproof. decent movie. cheesy. but still decent.

thought it was called deathrace? Was made in 70s right?
User avatar #13 - garin (06/04/2014) [-]
Deathproof was a Tarantino film made 2000+, Deathrace WAS a 70's film and then they made a remake. But the picture is making fun of the film Deathproof

Actually, the movie nearly keeps 100% to the story, except for the order that it happens in. I was a huge fan of the books as a kid, and read the shit out of them. Either way, I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie, because I don't let reading a book stop me from enjoying a movie about the same thing. Just because they went a different route doesn't mean it's a terrible movie, it just means it's a movie on it's own and not a straight rip from the book.
User avatar #24 - iliekmennow (04/12/2014) [-]
It added some things into the film that I cannot forgive it for... like the adding of the children nearly getting hit by a train and then later Olaf just gets the children given back to him... Plus, In my own opinion, you're willing to have your own and that's fine too I think Olaf was played too playfully. He was meant to be intimidating.
#19 - anonymous (04/12/2014) [-]
have you seen/read World War Z? I could put up with the 'butchering' of the story for unfortunate events, mainly because everything that happened in the first book would have only taken close to an hour if they stretched it out and added some filler. I thought it made sense for them to have the first three books put together so that the movie would have enough content while still covering a large enough part of the story. Plus I think that the producers knew they wouldn't be having sequels to the movies so they tried to arrange the movie in such a way that it would end with an interesting cliffhanger and so it could (at least somewhat) stand as its own movie.

BUT, I do agree with you to some extent, the books were better in many different ways, but since the movie was kinda planned to be the only one they kind of couldn't introduce all the themes that came more into play later into the series. The saddest thing is that some of the themes were the best parts of the series /rant
