I doubt the parents relay every social media post to their kid. It would be a bit rude to just show up unexpectedly to some stranger's house and expect to spend the day with a kid and his family.

Anyway, electricity production plants based on petroleum are FAR more efficient than any automotive combustion engine.

You can get hydrogen from seawater, which there is no shortage of.

You don't put hydrogen into an engine. Hydrogen goes from the fuel tank into and electricity generator which uses a hydrolysis reaction to produce water and electricity. Water vapor leaves the car through the tailpipe and the electricity is used to power electric motors.
