It's probably still growing.

Dream is the right word to use there. If communism worked the way it sounds like it would everyone would love it, but it doesn't. There's not a man on Earth who won't mistreat his people when you give him that much power, which is sad, but that makes it no less true.

To be fair, capitalism doesn't work that great either.

It was the Spartans. Athens got the honor for it, because Sparta went back to a much, much better system.

Today the best we got is a mixture of different ideologies. Full capitalism would probably be even worse than full communism, but we can't know that for certain. The Socialism/capitalism seems to be the one working best, at the moment.

I'm not sure that we can call the type of society Sparta had as being better than anyone, given that they thrived on war and threw "weak" children off of cliffs.

They had one leader (a king), a council with some power, and some religion shit. The king was always a fantastic leader, and if he didn't do a good job, he'd lose his head. Because there was only 1 family in charge, who ruled for the people, not over them, they had the experience and wisdom no one else had.

Do you think that would work today in countries with millions of people?
#172 - haroldsaxon (03/27/2013) [-]
Depends on who's in charge, and I know just the guy...

The problem we face is that it doesn't depend on who is in charge. We are yet to find a person who would not turn on his people if given the power, and we have no system of choosing anyone to run things who hasn't gotten to their position through corrupt politics.

Now, that is a problem.

Indeed. If only there was someone we could trust enough for that. Anyway, it's 5 am and I'm going to bed. Have a nice evening or morning or whatever it is to you.
