Everyone molded the modern world. Genghis Khan molded the modern world. The Nazi experiment on the jews molded the modern world. You'll have to forgive me if I'm not all that impressed by the premise that the British molded the modern world.
User avatar #76 - bobebob (11/04/2014) [-]
Eh the British are technically the most responsible, it was them who pretty much started the industrial revolution and got the whole world industrialized enough to fuel technological development pretty much everywhere
#116 - montybalboa (11/04/2014) [-]
Not really true, Britain was certainly first in reaching an Industrial Revolution, but countries like Belgium, Germany and (in a different way) France would also have revolutionised soon after if Britain. Also worth noting that it's entirely possible that India could have been a global superpower for the previous century if we hadn't colonised them.
User avatar #117 - bobebob (11/04/2014) [-]
Yeah that's all true, and very valid points, but the British had arguably the largest global influence at the time so their culture and industrial revolution are what most likely shaped our world today
User avatar #92 - lolollo (11/04/2014) [-]
Where's the cause and effect that's leading you to think that, though?
User avatar #118 - bobebob (11/04/2014) [-]
Mostly my general knowledge of the subject, and some assumptions based on generally accepted ideas. Britain arguably the most global influence at the time, so it would be logical to assume that advancements would be spread throughout the remnants of the empire
User avatar #123 - lolollo (11/05/2014) [-]
OK, and any influence they had that was only possible due to the influence of some other empire would mean that you can attribute that influence to the prior empires.

Shit, I don't really even know where to start.
Hundreds, maybe thousands cultures gone forever because every negro and asian heathen had to become a christian. Of course, that didn't exactly make them HUMAN, but they became good enough to serve as carriers and workers for the condescending Brits who were too busy sipping their gin&tonics to do any actual work themselves.

Fact is, British, French, Spanish and Dutch colonization has to come only second place of "disasters in human history", the abrahamitic religions taking first place. Or do you think the world looks nice right now?

In Gurren Lagann, the antagonists can earn decorative helmets for their mecha to show their rank and status. I haven't gone to the same point in the series as the scene in this gif, but I imagine the protagonists do the same.

Also, more armor plating never hurt anybody.

For a worldwide fundraiser that's nothing. Pfizer alone probably has a way higher budget just for research.

If everyone who heard of the ice bucket challenge would have installed BOINC and takes part in Rosetta@home or Poem@home it would probably be way more helpfull

She is (or was lol) a Bosnian living in Austria. People from Bosnia are either Serbs or muslim Serbs (they call themselves Bosnians). There are a lot of Bosnians and Serbs in Austria because of the shitty economy.

What I'm trying to say - she is a Muslim, and that's why she left. She doesn't look like one tho.
