Ah well I'm 20 as of this year, so I don't plan on doing any of that stuff. I don't a license to be getting a car (though I'm getting one as soon as I'm able), can't drink legally.

I'm going to A school for AECF (I don't know what rating yet) so if they know anything about that or how tough the physical part of basic is I'd love to know more about that. Also about all the stuff you have to remember ( general orders of sentry) since I have a horrible memory, how important is that stuff to remember?

In that case the ranks are different. NCO's in the navy are petty officers.

Ah aright, yeah I'm Army. You guys got all the weird ranks, but basically any kind of petty officer is someone you should be listening to.

Just try your best to find a strong leader that is willing to take you under there wing a bit to help you learn and become and better man and sailor. Just make sure you choose well. Though the bulk of senior enlisted are great men that know their jobs extremely well, some of them aren't the type you'll want to model your life after.

Also, just a note, idk what age you are but don't fall into any of the usual pitfalls that young guys in the military do. Don't get married under 21, don't go out and buy a brand new car, don't get ridiculously drunk at port, and generally try not to bang/anger/injure the locals. Do that and you're already be above like 30-40% peers in decision making skills.

Aside from all the complexities, if you go in there honestly trying your hardest to learn and be the best you can you'll succeed. Your leadership will make sure of it. Just remember in the military, ALWAYS be honest. It's one of the few places left where saying "Sir, I made a bad decision, I fucked up, and it won't happen again." is better received than some sort of excuse.

If you have some more questions I got a couple buddies in the Navy I can get you answers from. Ones just getting out of B school for Aegis missiles and the other is a senior MP. Not sure of his official rank. Just shoot me a PM with your questions and I'll see if I can help you out.

NCO?
User avatar #97 - bosshogoutlaw (06/01/2014) [-]
Non-Commissioned Officer. Anything Corporal or above in the enlisted ranks. Sergeants, Staff Sergeants, Sergeant First Class, etc. they are all guys that have either decided to make the military a career or are just simply really damn good at it. Talk with them over what you need to do to get better once you reach your unit and they'll be there to help you.

Are you in the US or what country are you from and what branch are you joining? (Army, Navy, Air Force, etc)

And remember, no matter how undeserving you think you are, you ARE worthy of love.
