We don't. Not more so than any other country at least. Its inside gun free zones is where you see the casualties stack up.
#18 - Ken M (02/24/2015) [-]
No he does not.

1. You dont have problems like this, because your continent isnt joined to the middel east. hence imigration from there is limited (our middel east immigrents are like your mexicans).

2. In the US, they wouldnt use knives or likewise, they would have access to assault rifles and guns. So the attacks would be much more brutal, just like your school shootings..
User avatar #28 - lyiat (02/24/2015) [-]
It's really adorable that all you morons think assault rifles are legal in the US.... Assault weapons =/= Assault rifles.

Assault weapon = a political, made-up term to describe scary, military looking firearms with telescopic or folding stocks, bayonet mounts, and high-compacity magazines (as well as things as tactical rails and pistol grips for longarms). Many pistols and shotguns fall under assault weapon categorization under the 'assault weapon' ban.

Assault Rifle - A longarm with select-fire capability (capable of firing more than one round per triggle pull). Assault rifles are illegal in every state. The only ones permitted to be owned by civilians date from the seventies and further back. Nothing past... I want to say 73 is legal, and even then only with some hefty goddamn permits. They're collectors items, and over 40 years old by now.
#19 - boothead (02/24/2015) [-]
Hahahahahaha
Look at France dick bag, god you anti-gunners are on another dimensional plain of retard. Getting an illegal gun is just as easy anywhere in any country no matter the gun control, you've been brainwashed by your own nanny state to think that gun control works xD
#15 - theruinedsage (02/24/2015) [-]
Yeah, that's why your crime- and murderrates are so low
User avatar #22 - lyiat (02/24/2015) [-]
In comparison to...? We're 111th in the world when it comes to murder rates. The Virgin Isles have more murders per capita than we do.
User avatar #23 - theruinedsage (02/24/2015) [-]
You're still at twice as much as Norway, and almost 6 times as many as Denmark
User avatar #24 - lyiat (02/24/2015) [-]
Both of which have firearm laws similar to our most restrictive states when it comes to gun laws, the same states that suffer from the highest number of incidents of gun crime in the United States. What exactly is your point?
#33 - Ken M (02/24/2015) [-]
Because the US is a big place, it's not hard to get a gun from somewhere that has almost no gun control and then take it to a state that has higher gun control.
The US fetish for guns results in higher shooting fatalities than it would if it had gun control. I don't know how people can argue against that with a straight face.
Oh look at all those school shootings, I bet those people would be alive if there was some semblance of gun control.
Of course, if you tried to take away guns now, people will cry about you removing their masculinity or some bull.
User avatar #36 - lyiat (02/24/2015) [-]
Except that doesn't happen. As high as eighty percent of all gun related crime that happens in the United States are from illegally acquired firearms. Most often it is an unregistered firearm that made it's way back over the border from Mexico back when the CIA thought it was a bright fucking idea to sell a bunch of guns to the cartels in hopes they'd all kill each other. Those that are committed by legally acquired guns are the result of lax background check laws and by not having required psych evaluations, which I fully and absolutely support.
User avatar #25 - theruinedsage (02/24/2015) [-]
That more guns clearly doesn't equal less crime
User avatar #26 - lyiat (02/24/2015) [-]
In your country, sure. In our country, universally yes. The states with the least restrictions on guns have the least amount of crime. Across the board.
User avatar #27 - theruinedsage (02/24/2015) [-]
Which could mean 3 things.

Less guns equal more crime
More crime makes people be more strict about guns
Gun control means jack shit when you can easily go to the next city and get a gun.
User avatar #29 - lyiat (02/24/2015) [-]
Or four; gun culture in the USA is unlike gun culture on the rest of the planet and should not be speculated on by third parties. Leave us to our own devices so we can figure it out on our own.
User avatar #37 - pawnman (02/24/2015) [-]
How many people do you have in your population.
User avatar #30 - theruinedsage (02/24/2015) [-]
We do, but that doesn't exclude criticizing when it's clearly shit.
#21 - boothead (02/24/2015) [-]
Actually if you take out Chicago, NYC, Detroit and Washington DC Areas with such stringent gun control laws they might as well be seperate countries and change "self defense" to be outside of the "violent Crime" Category than stats would show the US to actually be a very safe country.
#17 - Ken M (02/24/2015) [-]
in the places where the practice is common, crime is indeed low

it's in the places where people are made defenseless targets due to government policies where crime is high.
User avatar #3 - travishein (02/23/2015) [-]
To be honest, the problem is rarely seen in the United States because we would ultimately brandish our handguns and riddle the charlatans with bullets.
User avatar #5 - slayzo (02/23/2015) [-]
I see the point you are making. Such issues are rarely existent because we are capable of revealing our hand weaponry and gunning down the fools.
User avatar #6 - travishein (02/23/2015) [-]
If I could only add...the instances of this type of behavior are vastly unseen in the colonies due to our quick access to pistols which we can rapidly display and use to blast assailants with projectiles.
#4 - boothead (02/23/2015) [-]
Despite my brash wording yes, laxing gun control in these countries would lower crime rates and allow the citizens to defend their homelands against terrorist acts. Im not saying guns for everyone, just do it the state of Vermont in the United States. Shits cash and crimes almost non existent.

No, but seriously. Why do you say Martial arts wouldn't work in those two situations?
#21 to #20 - boothead (12/31/2014) [-]
The elderly, people who are under 6foot, sick people, anybody who doesn't have a sense of balance etc.

The reason Australia doesnt have guns is because their government is afraid to lose its money and power, the only threat its government had was an armed populace, so who enforces its government now? Its own government? What can they do when they gifure out their votes are rigged? Cry?
User avatar #23 to #21 - vladthewolfdemon (02/10/2015) [-]
I recalled my friends situation where he doesn't like it - paranoid people I get jump if people wearing a "Tapout" shirt have been following me more than a block
User avatar #22 to #21 - vladthewolfdemon (12/31/2014) [-]
Okay you raise fair points about sick people and whatnot, but you can gain a sense of balence - That's basically what capoeira is all about, shifting you center of gravity.
And while most "Old people" might not be strong an old man by the name of Morihei Ueshiba created Aikido once he realised he couldn't punch people with the force he used to use, so then he made something where you use your opponents momentum/force against them - so old people could use that (Unless they're 90 in which case, shouldn't they be in a home or something?)
While on the younger side, people my age (early 20's) since we have more energy than older people surely we could generate what older people can't, so the arts should serve them fine.

Now onto firearms - I have a handful of friends that enjoy hunting and have guns and whatnot - the one friend's opinion I'll focus on did Legal Studies with me.
Okay so the "triggering event" for guns to be near-on removed was the Port Arthur massacre and we both agreed 'That kind of thing sucks, but it "makes sense" that they did it.' However we did research and essays on the 're-legalisation' of semi-auto and full-auto's and we did agree that bringing in semi-auto's was fine - He said just make them a different class of firearms along with full auto's while I said 'make them the hardest to get' but all other types of firearms have seemingly been getting easier to get (You still need reasons for them like 'Pest control' or 'Target shooting' not just "but I want it!" which is better because psycho cunts have to be determined)

In terms of conceal carry - it doesn't sit with me my friend thinks it's okay in certain situations I don't remember them for the life of me but even he thinks sometimes it isn't the greatest way to prevent crimes.

In all seriousness I LIKE debates like this - because it's an insight into a perspective that I don't come across often.
So if you wanna talk guns with me I'm all for it
