- I heard the US economy must have war to endure. It'd crash and…
The term is "military industrial complex".
"crash". There would either be a shitload of bored soldiers or they would get fired making them unemployed. Also there are factories who create army shit especially for the US so they would need to find new customers or go bankrupt. I Considering how big the US economy is, warstuff is not that important. However it would have impact on foreign economics and of course on politics and shit like that. US want to show the world they are no. 1 in warstuff etc. and a lots of other reasons exist for US to keep sending soldiers around the globe.
for all i have heard and know its true.

Or you could look at it from the perspective that tom is just a merry face in a childrens book.
In the books, Tom Bombadil represents other forces, ones who could protect the ring indefinitely, but choose not to. The same goes for the Elves, who could have taken and hidden the ring permanently, with no fear of saurons grasp, or leaving it with the great spider, who's cave alone the dark one's gaze could not pierce. Thier are many points at which the entire book could have ended much nicer for Frodo and co., but it didn't.
That's a much more logical explanation than the guy persisting that The lord of the rings, written for Tolkien children, are not children's books.
... It's not a children's book.
and that's where the story would have ended if frodo had stayed near the shire. but it isn't a children's book. and tom bombadil is not a shallow character
I think he is.
Sure I can understand why you would be able to say that, but you know how people make fun of english teachers because they always ask like "what do the blue drapes represent emotionally for this character? What was the author trying to say with this one irrelevant sentence in the book?" and everyone is just like "probably that the drapes are fucking blue."
well Tolkien was one of those authors that actually included characters like tom for a reason. not just to say "heres a merry face" so if anyones right in this conversation, its ancano, not you.
Well, It's a 70 year old children's book, so who knows?
no you see thats the thing, any research on Tolkien will tell you that he wouldnt put in a character as significant as Tom for no reason. Sure maybe he had bigger plans for him that he never got to, so the meaning of the character may not be exactly what ancano is saying it is, but either way, its pretty much guarenteed that you can scratch "just a merry face" off of the list of reasons for his existence.
I'm sure you know your stuff, but i'm not going to change my mind on the characters I grew up with. I've been reading this tale since i was a wee lad, And i'm not changing my view on one of them because there may or may not bee some deep significance to him.
a children's book.... that should be well known. characters in any novel have reasons, even if you cannot see them
Tom didn't limit himself. He chose not to be involved as the only thing he desires is peace for himself.
