meh it could just be because i tend to prefer science fiction over fantasy but i think it was down to that fallout just seemed more believable to me and i enjoyed the kind of mad max feel it had to it, my only criticism is (remembering this is only an hour or two of gameplay) a dune buggy or any redneck/post apocalypse vehicle would've been cool as well as binoculars my biggest problem was walking up to what looked like it might have been a friendly little place to trade and instead being piled by bandits

relativity only applies to laws on the larger scale (planetary movements etc) whereas quantum mechanics almost works as an entirely different set of rules. pretty fascinating that there can be different laws that dont agree with each other yet are still considered to be "working"

ahhh cool... i suppose that the theory of relativity is for objects with mass, hence the constant increasing in size and then force needed to push it farther, but i wonder if the "things" beyond quarks that i forget the name of now are actually deemed "matter" (without mass) and they themselves are able to be propelled/charged/superimposed to get to a higher speed... i could be way off but off the top of my head, this could be possible

User avatar #165 - dubzzzz (12/13/2011) [-]
FTL space travel is actually possible, however it has not been done yet.
It is done by creating a "bubble" around the object, and making the bubble move at FTL speed.
I'm not sure how they make the bubble or what it is composed of, if it is actually a perceivable object.
Another way is WORMHOLES.
#542 - piotr (12/13/2011) [-]
i remembe reading steves book 'a brief history of the universe' and something there being about the 'folds' of dimensions (so, basically there being 4th dimensions, possibly more) that are almost like folds in space-time which are technically accessible, and can be used to move through "time" either backwards or forwards (some say only forwards)... this could be what the whole wormhole theory goes on?

it is possible, but not with current technology. there are several methods with which mathematics all works out, but what we lack is a power source thats effective enough to initiate and disengage the process. as both happen on an enormous scale. you would also need an efficient power source as what good would a 1 way trip be? not even enough to gather worth-while data.

the sci-fi ways such as basic FTL, warp, and hyperspace all vary in methods, but are quite possible. difference between them is basic FTL just accelerates the ship to faster than the speed of light. for that you need alot of power. once you hit FTL, you need just as much, if not more energy to stop as velocity is constant in vacuum.
warp is similar to FTL, but as you said, it creates a subspace pocket where acceleration past light is easier than in our current space. large amounts of energy required to maintain the field
lastly hyperspace puts you completely in subspacea, essensially an alternate dimension where the speed of light isnt a universal constant. large amounts of energy needed to transfer a ship to alternate dimensions. and you would need energy to return to your own dimension, so obviously if you run out of energy while youre in hyperspace, youre fucked

my bad. and i do agree with you but if there is something wrong with relativity a lot of physicists will be scratching there scalps for years to come especially since relativity is pretty much a proven fact for example without relativity gps satellites wouldn't work properly
