I was thinking that the water with a large surface area orthogonal on the direction of the gravitational force (and pull) increases air resistance and therefore the water will fall slower than a sort-of bullet-shaped object (i.e. a humanoid falling vertically)

Wrong. If you drop a marble and a bowling ball at the same time, they will land at the same time(Excluding air resistance). It's called General Relativity, look it up sometime.

The gravitational force is most likely not the only source affecting neither the man nor the water.
E.g. the air friction accelerates in a different direction.

"An object either is at rest or moves at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external force" Newton's first law. The only thing I can think of is if you're not actually falling and it's just the camera.
