Actually, in all fairness, Jesus has actually been proved to have existed, whether he was the messiah and the son of God or not is entirely disputable.

#86 - wliia (01/27/2014) [-]
Except there is actual proof and evidence that Jesus existed. Yeah, he may have not had magical powers, but there was indeed a man who had a pretty strong following and who was crucified.

There is not actual proof Jesus existed, where Christians fabricate that sillyness is beyond me.

Most modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed,[1][2][3] but scholars differ on the historicity of specific episodes described in the Biblical accounts of Jesus,[4] and the only two events subject to "almost universal assent" are that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and was crucified by the order of the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate.[5][6][7] Biblical scholars and classical historians regard theories of his non-existence as effectively refuted.[8][9][10] Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Galilean Jew who was born between 7 and 4 BC, in the closing stages of the reign of King Herod and died 30–36 AD,[11][12][13] that he lived in Galilee and Judea, did not preach or study elsewhere,[14][15][16] and that he spoke Aramaic and perhaps also Hebrew and Greek.[17][18][19]

From wikipedia of course, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historicity_of_Jesus
But if you doubt click on all those citations.

You are talking HISTORICAL proof which basically means nothing. History is not fact.

Neither me nor wliia were claiming the messiah walked the Earth, we're saying most scholars agree he existed.

I mean, only almost every single modern scientist and historical scholar agrees with me. You can believe what you want though.

If you actually think Jesus didn't exist as a human being, you are unforgivably ignorant. That's like saying Buddha or Muhammad didn't exist.
#85 - anon (01/27/2014) [-]
I think they meant the legend of Jesus, because "Jesus" didn't exist. The man christians worships' name translates a lot closer to joshua or joseph not Jesus, also he was brown skinned and not magical. He did exist and was crucified, but the guy they are referring to is made up. like saint nicolas and santa claus.
#131 - anon (01/27/2014) [-]

saint nicholas was a real guy....

but it's a metaphor, don't you see? It's all symbolic so it makes perfect logic sense
User avatar

Good then that he turned water into wine, healed people, walked on water and all is also just symbolic.
User avatar
#335 - ugoboom (01/27/2014) [-]
yup. I think if you're gonna be a christan, you should take the bible as a big metaphor for some good values. Maybe.
User avatar
#338 - stifflimb (01/27/2014) [-]
If you gonna be a christian you should not follow just the part you like in the bible, you should follow everything, otherwise you should do your own branch of christianity like protestant and such.
I rather be agnostic and do what I wanna do as long as it dont hurt other people and also try to be a good person to others, not cause some deity says so but cause it's better for everyone.
User avatar
#346 - ugoboom (01/27/2014) [-]
yup. I was raised christian, but was always on the agnostic side. I knew that a god would not make himself known, because then everyone will 'believe' just so they can go to heaven. Of course a great creator would want us to rely on faith alone, so I held onto that idea.

But when I stopped praying for things and actually started looking into how to fix my problems, things got better. Being a christian was just becoming a slight waste of time and money.

When I go to volunteer at homeless shelters/clinics, and I get asked about my religion, the reaction faces are priceless when I say I'm an agnostic athiest.
User avatar
#348 - stifflimb (01/27/2014) [-]
Wait you can be both agnostic and aethist? xD
Yeah I kinda feel that people are good cause of their religon only are good cause hey are afraid of hell, wich means they do good deeds for selfish reasons wich means they still go to hell.
And any god who would be petty and throw someone into hell for not believing in him when some guys in robes says we should, is not a god I wanna worship anyway.
Especially when he throw babies that did not have time to be baptised into hell also, like it's their fault!
#349 - ugoboom (01/27/2014) [-]
This diagram does a good job explaining gnosticism and theism.

Exactly though, the whole concept of who and what goes to hell and it's all different based on 50 million sub-denominations.

I really hate when people think Mormons are nice because they are nice. They're being nice so they can get pimp-status in heaven. Catholics do this too to a lesser extent.

#352 - stifflimb (01/27/2014) [-]
I'm like you then, dont believe in any written religion but still thinks that as a simple man I got no way do ever determine if there exist some devine deity, although I kinda hope there is cause I would hate for death to be the end!
#353 - ugoboom (01/27/2014) [-]
The lack of an afterlife is very scary; is to me too. But the thing is, when I'm dead, there won't be a me to be upset that I'm dead. Very bleak and depressing, but that's life for you. Why do fruit flies last only a couple of days? Just to be food for some other animal. The life metagame sucks. I think there was an episode of futurama that put it into good words. But I don't let that depress me. I'm not conscious just to be a mopey being. The best way to combat that thought is to not think about it. Ignorance is bliss.

#354 - stifflimb (01/27/2014) [-]
I think like this, this might be our only life, therfore use it to the fullest and try to enjoy it as much as possible!
