Yeah, my college classes on government and economics really just don't stack up to that Mario Kart analogy.
Agreed, only people with a college degree should be allowed to vote.
No, because that would be restricting voting to people who can afford college.
It is my personal, political, belief that Joe Blow shouldn't be able to go and vote for Obummer just because he's black. I think there should be some sort of quiz required. Just simple stuff, like Candidate A is a Democrat, true or false.
So, I should only be allowed to vote if I agree that Obama is a democrat (even though my personal belief would say otherwise).
Your personal belief?
Obama IS a Democrat. That's an objective fact, and if you think otherwise you're wrong. Democrat is a party affiliation.
Being a member of the party doesn't neccessarily mean that he is behaving in a way that I as a voter believe is very true to the spirit and founding values of the Democratic Party.
He belongs to the Democratic Party. That makes him a Democrat. Just like Ron Paul is a Republican as long as he belongs to that party. Don't give me this no-true-Scotsman crap.
Democrat isn't the same as liberal.
What you fail to see is that regardless of how wacky you might think one's idea of politics might be, it is their right to believe so. That is democracy. Making tests to see who is "worthy" is not only undemocratic, it also sounds easily exploitable.
I don't fail to see that, I oppose these sorts of tests. Voting is an essential civil right. I don't agree at all with the guy you were replying to.
All I'm saying is that there is such a thing as objective political knowledge, such as who's running for office, what party they belong to, what positions they have previously held, and so on. It's not pure opinion. Obama being a Democrat is one of these objective facts.
with doesn't change the fact that he was the Democratic candidate in the 2012 election.
He was a candidate, given. Whether or not I believe he is a worthy representive of the democratic party is another thing. By taking such "quiz" I would have to answer "correctly", which is a bit dangerous when politics is mostly opinions.
please tell me you're joking
Sarcasm is a form of joking, I guess..
