Don't put too much thought into it, Conquest is incredibly mediocre and Generation 2(G/S/C) takes place three years after the events of Red & Blue.

Time and Technology advances in the pokemon games about the same as it does in the real world, if not a bit faster, basically because everything has to be "High Tech" now that we don't trade with Link cables and Wifi some kid in Belgium we never have met and never intend to meet.

Nah bro in the first game they have genetic engineering. They can transfer living creatures through an ethernet cable, essentially make candy that forces the genes of a pokemon to rapidly evolve, and yet they haven't mastered cars or houses.

Ironically, in that game where they basically have feudal warfare, they refer to a region to the east where they put there pokemon in balls for storage, referring to it as 'Barbaric'
#168 - blackandwhitegod (12/16/2012) [-]
Correct me if I am wrong here but in the storyline you start in Kanto which is to the west. From there you constantly move east. In Gen 2 or 3 it is revealed that pokeballs were invented in Johto. The farther east you go the more diverse the pokemon become but they are all evolutionary failures of nature, for instance the evolution of icecream into a pokemon or a gear into a pokemon which is noted to be only a hundred year old species. Johto also has the most advanced technology and resembles Western Europe, my argument for this is their crime syndicate compared to the others as well as the fact you can clone pokemon. Time advances with each game, though I believe Gen 1 and 2 happen at the same time, at a pace of roughly 10-30 years.

Conquest is basically a stand alone story line if you take into consideration plot from the manga (similar to the game) and anime. Of course you can force the manga plot to fit to the Pokemon games, since it was supposed to, but either way the pokemon games eventually evolved into their own story line and have been moving closer to the anime in some respects.

So you're telling me the people who raise you and teach you the social norms of life have no effect on how you perform socially in life?
#369 - miaandvinny (12/16/2012) [-]
You do have a good point, and that face does scare me, but I have to disagree. I would hope (I can never be sure though) that I won't kill innocent people because of what my parents did or did not do to me. I'm effected by my paren't actions, and those around me, but that would be no excuse to do something this drastic.
User avatar #333 - mcatheistnuggets (12/16/2012) [-]
They can red thumb you if they want, but you have a point. But so does the other guy, it's a mix of both, you should try to improve yourself, but they shouldn't shun you for being who you are, they should be helping you improve yourself instead of bullying you or rejecting you. If you can't get help from them, find someone who will help you, reject them. Murder and suicide are never appropriate options, the only people who deserve to die are those who have unnecessarily taken life.

Tenure is not just a college thing. The fact that tenure exists in public schools is a actually a pretty big issue. I'm surprised that someone who apparently worked in a school missed that.

www.education.com/magazine/article/what-is-teacher-tenure/

And there are some teachers that make over six figures if they've been teaching for like 25+ years. I know for a fact that a teacher in my school that's in her 40s makes somewhere in the $90,000s (she told us that she and a few other teachers in the school make that much as part of a lesson plan she was giving us).

And they don't really work that much during winter break. I do track and have to come in during the breaks for practice. I've never seen any teachers there besides the coaches who do it voluntarily and get paid extra. I've also never heard of teachers coming in during break. Yeah, they usually come in a few days before school starts, and they stay like a week after it ends, but that's really just cleaning up, paperwork, etc. They don't deal with kids.

As for your six figure bullshit, my first job was in a resturant where the manager worked 4 days a week for eight hours. He made 54,000 starting off and he wasn't even the head manager. My teachers in highschool made 37,000-43,000$ a year and most of them had been working there for over ten years.

2 1/2 months for summer break
2 weeks for winter break
2 weeks for spring break
use the left over days from the months (4 weeks=28 days) to account for short breaks like the Jewish holidays or MLK day

That's 35 hours a week, 4 weeks a month, 8.5 months. That's gonna be 1190 hours. Yeah they have to deal with kids, but that's it. They don't have genuine stress in their lives. They just have to deal with annoying kids. That's not to say models have that much stress, but people like lawyers and doctors have 1000 times more stress than teachers. Doctors and lawyers have to do a lot of work at home too (researching medical conditions, finding info for a case, etc). Teachers get really long breaks multiple times a year, and they still get paid signifigantly over minimum wage, they get terrific benefits, and they can pretty much never get fired if they have tenure (a teacher at my school got drunk in class and threw a beer can at a kid. she was obviously fired, but she sued because she had tenure and got her job back. and it's not like its some horrible school, it's a fairly rich area in NJ). They get just as much as they deserve if not MORE. Some teachers that have been teaching for a really long time can even make in the $90,000s or in six figures.
User avatar #84 - SgtObvious (12/15/2012) [-]
I forgot to mention:

they get paid extra for doing extracurricular activies

meetings are not really that long

office hours? they have to come in like 10 more days than kids and stay like an hour later on a daily basis (if that)

concerning grading, they make their own assignments and choose what they have to grade
#125 - blackandwhitegod (12/15/2012) [-]
Ok dude im not even sure if you are arguing college or public schooling. Either way you are wrong.

Tenure is a college thing.

If you are talking about college professors they have to do a lot of extra work called research, which is where you actually do shit in your free time when you aren't teaching full time.
#122 - blackandwhitegod (12/15/2012) [-]
Dude idk what school you went to but here most of the holidays are mandatory work days. They have to come in a few hours. Even over the winter break they are supposed to work a certain number of days.

Yes they get paid extra for that because they are working extra hours.

Meetings can last for hours, I worked as a clerk in a school for two years, I assure you they are not as short as you want them to be. And no they don't get to make their own assignments, they are supposed to do certain things. They check in to make sure they are doing a certain quote in writing and HW.

They don't have to pick up summer jobs, thats wrong. they get to choose whether they get paid all year long for less at a time or more at a time only during school. so they would never need a summerjob if they chose the first option
#56 - blackandwhitegod (12/15/2012) [-]
Thats not true. Locally you are paid a salary for the two semesters, If you are a summer teacher you get paid for half of a semester. Most of the teachers who opted out for making a small some for working shitty hours during the summer and instead chose to go work at local firms and businesses. I knew a chem professor who worked at a local clinic during the summer and made way more than he would have made if he worked at the school.

What I'm trying to tell you is if his teachers were better at teaching him, he wouldn't HAVE to studying for hours every night. He wouldn't HAVE to spend money he doesn't have getting a tutor. If the teacher did their job, he'd be able to relax a little.

He has a couple of hours at home whenever he has to help his mom take care of his brother, or help do shit around his house before he goes to school.
If he is cheating, he's damned good at hiding it. All though I seriously don't see the need for you to try and instill a seed of doubt. It's hilarious, actually. I laughed out loud.
