My name is Anya, I'm 27 years young and I'm currently working as an English language instructor for an elementary school in Kyoto Japan. I have also been known to make some pretty interesting comps

It isn't the best feeling in the world. But no notification can compare to how invigorating that pop is every time a new reply is received.

my degree is a bit full to try to squeeze in any languages, but im trying to work through the genki textbooks and use memrise for the most part.

I think ill be happy if i can get to the point of ordering food formally. Understanding that they think i talk like a prick is probably a bit beyond my reach haha

In time ordering food will come casually. I think when you enter a new country you want to give it your best but in time you realize that it's ok saying things like, "one small fry thank you" instead of "Excuse me, I would like a small order of fries if that's ok? Thank you so very much"

So connections with people who have authority and reputation, networking essentially, all of that is very important.

That's a very interesting point about respecting others with formality and showing modesty. I have seen that behaviour in anime before. Interesting how that kind of little social dynamic is true to real life there.

Yeah we all have differing and varied tastes and desires. I think it's interesting to know about people's fantasies and desires. I'm fine with everyone letting each other like what they like.

I'm kinda curious about the part where you said you're Russian. Can you tell me about what living and growing up in Russia was like?

Saying what it is like growing up in Russia is hard without comparing it to something else. I came to America when I was 14 and it wasn't until then I realized what having certain things was like. Things like being able to get into the doctor right away or being able to study whatever you want without judgement still blows me away. In Russia you can still get an education but if your a woman people will assume if you have a good job it's because you can't find a good man so you have to submit yourself to work because that's all you have.
