Britfag here... thinking about watching me some baseball. Anywhere I can *legally acquire* some? What's the baseball version of the premier league?

Is there a team that's not doing so well that's an underdog I can get behind? Cheers

Gif/webm unrelated.

You could always try the Rays. coincidentally my home team They've always played money ball not spending enormous amounts of money for individual players and figured out ways to do relatively well.

"Is there a team that's not doing so well that's an underdog I can get behind?" You've described the Seattle Mariners entire history. We've never been to a World Series and only to the playoff like 5 times in 40 or so years. If enjoy dying inside every time you turn on the TV the Mariners are the team to watch.

Red Sox. Become a Red Sox fan. They're good enough to win every so often, but a lot of times they are really bad... But when they're good they're amazing
#84 - chimi (08/06/2015) [-]
while usually not an underdog my favorite team is the new york yankees who have the most championships in SPORTS after the glasglow rangers, 54, (did a bit of google) but that isnt even top tier soccer like the the premier league

if you wanna root for an underdog right not the new york mets are surprisingly good with matt "the dark knight" harvey being the ace (you're number one starting pitcher)

or you could go with the world's most underdog team the chicago cubs who have been a pretty bright spot in the mlb this season. the last time they won a world series was in 1908

but whatever you do, despise the red sox with all that you are. they are evil incarnate, the antichrist what with their beantown nickname and their constant use of the word wicked. may they burn in the fires mordor

also try watching the world baseball classic. it's very exciting and pretty much the world cup of baseball but you know, nowhere near the popularity exccept in the dominican republic where baseball is king

Seconded on this question. How do I follow baseball?
#101 - dafogman (08/06/2015) [-]
Unfortunately MLB doesn't stream their games without you paying for it. You could subscribe for that at MLB.com . Not sure how it works in other countries but a friend of mine (he's a sorry Giants fan) did that and he was able to stream to his Xbox, phone, etc. I guess the best way to follow is to start at MLB.com and go from there.
Good luck and go Dodger Blue!
#113 - HOtaconE (08/06/2015) [-]
What State/City do the Dodgers represent, and are they sufficiently underdog to provide and interesting watch, or are they the Barcelona of baseball?
User avatar
#119 - dafogman (08/06/2015) [-]
They're a well established team form the city of Los Angeles. I grew up in Southern Californina in the 80's and they were a great team back then. I wouldn't call them an underdog though. If you really want an underdog go with the Chicago Cubs. They haven't won a world series in like 100 years and they seem to be cursed.

Board of directors. In a public company since it is owned by many people through shares, even if you are the CEO in name, the board can fire you easily if you don't have enough shares to be on the BoDs to make friends and defend yourself. Also if you fuck up really bad you will be forced to retire by the BoDs. In a private company a CEO is the position with absolute power.

Actually, it's just strategy. When you're only real selling point "Hey I say what I mean" then apologizing would destroy what little street cred you have.

Thing is though, Trump's big fucking mouth will also be his downfall. He's obviously not going to win the nomination, let alone the presidency, and he'll be left not only having spent tons of his own money on the campaign, but having lost HUGE business partners while making inflammatory comments.

MFW we'll never have a president like Reagan.
#272 - jujuface (07/25/2015) [-]
He's threatening to leave the republican party now and run as a third party candidate.
With the kind of numbers he's polling right now, that would be devastating to the right wing. They would never beat the democrats after losing trump's base as it is. It's actually pretty brilliant, even though he's not going to win either way. He's forcing the right wing to accept him as their candidate or get taken down with him. Selfish and pompous as fuck, but clever.

The Republicans have always been so apprehensive about the media that they'll almost always kowtow to their pressure. They believe they can get the media to like them but that's not gonna happen if they just do what they want.

The right is thirsty for someone with some actual balls and so far Trump is the only one to do it.

User avatar
#101 - kuchikirukia (07/23/2015) [-]
You're assuming he has a choice. Remember, he's been surrounded by sycophants for decades. It's his very own Fox News Network telling him that any and all naysayers are always wrong, and do you think the Trump is ever going to get tired of hearing it? It's obvious that at this point he believes it.

It doesn't take guts to act as though your bubble is the only truth, only a lack of perspective.
User avatar
#33 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2015) [-]
It takes guts, but we're electing a president not our "Wildlife Safari Guide". We want a guy who understands that people will fucking die because of the decisions he makes in war, and won't make those decisions anyway if they're unnecessary.

Not to mention that electing Donald Trump of all people would be a fucking embarrassment for the entire country. He's a fucking liar (he claims his net worth is "3 billion dollars" when in fact it's actually somewhere around 140 million), he's a fucking idiot ("I'm sure some mexicans are nice people". Really? I'm not particularly politically correct, but even I fucking know that the vast majority of spics are decent people), and he doesn't know when to fucking shut up. The United States is not on a magic untouchable pedestal. We're powerful, yes, but we're not untouchable. We need someone who is going to stand fucking still while we're up here, not aid Russia and China in rocking our foundations.
#89 - adrenalinbbq (07/23/2015) [-]
Although I don't believe Trump could make the best decisions for our country, he's talking about loosening China and Russia's grasp on us...as insignificant as it may be. They break our moral and governmental laws all the time, but we give them a free pass so as not to stir things up.
User avatar
#204 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2015) [-]
Yes, because the last time we "stirred things up" with China and Russia, North Korea was partitioned off, Vietnam was formed, and we lost the ability to draft for minor wars. China's not going to try anything excessive while the Pacific Fleet is so close to Asia but still so far from Beijing. If we park it right in the Sea of Japan though, they might start doing air raids.
#209 - adrenalinbbq (07/23/2015) [-]
You have your timeline incorrect. Vietnam and Korea (and Germany) were partitioned, as you say, right after WWII. Our escapades brought Chinese and SOVIET attention, but you know what, we still all have to sign a draft card when we hit 18 years old.
User avatar
#219 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2015) [-]
I am aware that Korea was still divided, but what I mean was that there was still some level of interaction before we showed up, pissed off the Chinese, and completely lost the Korean War. Also, I said Vietnam, not North Vietnam. The country was still divided until, again, we showed up and drew Soviet and Chinese ire.

Plus, we may have to sign a draft card but everyone knows that the draft is almost never going to happen, especially not for minor wars. As I recall, no one got drafted for Afghanistan, right?
#273 - adrenalinbbq (07/25/2015) [-]
Some level of interaction? Yea, that interaction was North Korea fucking up South Korea.
You're also confusing the lack of NEED to have a draft, and the ABILITY to.
#258 - adrenalinbbq (07/24/2015) [-]
Okay, a few things.
We didn't lose the Korean war. We ended with what we started with, and technically the war's not even over, since no treaty has been signed.
I know you didn't say North Vietnam, but that doesn't detract from the fact that our involvement towards flushing out the communist party didn't adversely affect the outcome of what is now Vietnam. (I know the aftermath of the 'conflict' but from what it is now to what it could have been are probably the same)
Lastly, the fact that we have a military this enormous just from a volunteer service is a GOOD thing, and we didn't lose any ability to draft, regardless.
#53 - anon (07/23/2015) [-]
Check the damn facts bro. I don't like Trump either but that sleazy bastard is worth a cool 10 billion.
User avatar
#56 - greyhoundfd (07/23/2015) [-]
Well, we're both wrong. The "barely over 100 million" is the worth of his personal brand, which since he announced has gone to effectively zero, but that's not his net worth.

But almost every financial analyst says that his net worth is far lower than 10 billion, and that it's currently actually dropping from around 4 billion, if it's even that high.
User avatar
#238 - themanwithnoplan (07/23/2015) [-]
In case you wanted to know, the month before he ran he "said" his evaluation was around 8.7 Billion. The month he started to run, he "said" his evaluation valued him around 10 billion, an increase in 1.3 in one month.

But yeah, he's probably worth around 4 billion in pure value.

It's hilarious, people constantly bitch about how politicians are so passive on everything, they never give concrete answers, they flip flop on many issues not because of learning new information but because it's convenient.

Now while Trump isn't my ideal pick, we now have a "candidate" who isn't prepped for a career as a politician. As a result, his faults are out in the open and he doesn't back from them and he gives controversial but adamant answers on topics.

It's absurd, we constantly mock the concept of the politician yet when someone isn't giving the public complete and total bullshit for the sake of not rocking the boat, we criticize them for not fitting that mold.

>his comments show a horrifying amount of ignorance and stupidity
As would any other politicians, if they actually stated their opinions. Every other candidate sticks to non-controversial talking points in order to avoid offending the unwashed masses.

The fact that you can't appreciate honesty because it is controversial shows that you are part of the unwashed masses. Git gud, pleb.
#30 - nytor (07/23/2015) [-]
Nothing about honesty inherently warrants respect. Any idiot can be honest. Yeah, Trump doesn't try to hide his views at all, but his views don't warrant any respect. While I'd certainly like a politician to be honest, I'm not going to say, "Well, he may be a lunatic, but at least he's honest! He's got my vote!"
#16 - anon (07/23/2015) [-]
yes, it is nice to finally have a prominent presidential candidate that isn't a passive wimp and has steadfast answers. the only problem is that those "adamant answers" are fucking retarded ones. And while yes, it's not like he can really fuck anything up because he is too stupid to do anything with what little power the president has, him getting elected would be a waste of everyone's time.
