Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying a parrot is a smart as an ape or an ape is as dumb as a parrot, it's just a counter-example to your statement. Otters use tools, too. Does that mean we came from otters?
Just because we both have opposable thumbs doesn't mean we come from a "common" ancestor, as it is commonly put. My leopard gecko has claws, and so does my cat. They're not even in the same phylum.

that's not what the ape is doing. it comprehends and understands language at a higher level.
and yes, otters are very intelligent, as are the millions of other creatures that have learned to use tools.
it wasn't that "a monkey, somehow developed the capacity for civilization, written language, consciousness, etc... " it took millions of years of evolution and social darwinism
and having claws is quite different that developing opposable thumbs. how many creatures have this feature again?
