$7.45 last I knew in Michigan.
On September 1st, it will raise to $8.15

7.25 in Wisconsin, here. But our food is cheap, and we have apartments for like 400 a month. Plus, only part timers really get minimum wage around here, atleast where I work that's how it is. I've personally only had one job where I got 7.25 and it was at a thrift shop. Everywhere else chooses to go +8.

Fulltimers in good jobs get like 9-10 starting. Usually 10.

$9.10 in Oregon. It's perfect if you live in places like Eugene, Springfield, and Junction City where you can find apartments (and sometimes houses) between $400-$700. But in Central Oregon, you can't even afford an apartment on $9.10/hour unless it's low income housing.

it's $7.85 in OH, yet another reason to leave this fucking state
User avatar #31 - animationhac (08/21/2014) [-]
Same in Arizona. It sucks since most apartments cost 600+ for a one bedroom. So you can't afford living on your own.

The cost of living is low in Ohio and don't work minimum wage, it's for old people and highschoolers

Pro-tip, it cost's more to live in the areas with higher minimum wages, usually at a greater magnitude.

oh gee I wish I had thought of that

actually I have 2 job interviews this week, one for a $9/hr job and one for a $15/hr job so minimum wage won't affect me for much longer

for that second part: I actually hadn't thought of that, idk what the cost of living is exactly in Ohio but it does actually make sense

saying "Don't work a minimum wage job" is as useful as saying "just go and win the lottery". I mean do you you think people choose to go work at McDonalds in there 30's because they want to? Sometimes minimum wage is your only option to make money.

It's usually a result of bad decisions, so you could say it is a choice. You know less only 1% of the population works for minimum wage or lower (Look it up on the BLM stats)? That is a whole 3.8 million people, but in the grand scheme it;s not a whole lot, but it really isn't too difficult to get a decent paying job TBH.
#26 - noschool (08/21/2014) [-]
it's probably true that they made some have made bad decisions but those decisions make it hard to get a good job, it's one thing to say a young person has the potential to make good decisions to get a good job but it's another to say a person that is working for minimum wage in there 30's can easily go out and get a good job.
from what i found last year it was about 4.3% www.bls.gov/cps/minwage2013.pdf , which is about 13 million people.
User avatar #32 - tealcanaan (08/21/2014) [-]
It says, "Together, these 3.3 million workers with wages at or
below the federal minimum made up 4.3 percent of all
hourly paid workers"
. I forgot to mention something like 1/3 of the population doesn't work (boomers lol). So I guess technically we're both rights. But the truth is that most people on minimum wage are indeed retirement age or teenagers or illegal aliens in the more northern state without major ICE presence. The media just likes to cherry-pick sob stories for what is basically a non-issue. Our minimum wage is comparable to most of the developed world anyway with our strong buying power.
