So why not leave and go somewhere there's work? If nothing is holding you back, and I'm assuming there is nothing considering she would have to be pretty dang down to not have family help care for her, than whats stopping her from going to the next village or town and starting up something as simple as a cloths washing business or maid service?
#274 - whtkid (09/16/2013) [-]
Hey man, I live in the city of Chicago and I've done volunteer work at a homeless shelter before, you would not believe how far some of the people have gone, even if it's just by their own two feet. Getting to the closest major city would be hard, yes, but a helluva lot better than dieing. In cities, there's always work that people would rather pay someone else to do.
#280 - whtkid (09/16/2013) [-]
And you are basically comparing these woman to abused children, I don't understand the connection. These are grown human beings who actually have more freedom alone than they do in marriage, they can leave if they so choose.
Is it sad? Yes. Alas, that is the way that the world is, some people have much harder lives than others.
#278 - whtkid (09/16/2013) [-]
Yes, because that is exactly what i said. Thank you for 100% interpreting my words for me instead of taking what I said and actually applying it.
No, i did not say they are lazy. Perhaps they don't want to let go of the life they had, or they did not want to leave, but leaving is always an option. It does not matter if you have "no rights" as you say, but you can do it if you so choose.
#279 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/16/2013) [-]
"Essentially" Meaning I interpreted that as the essence of what you were saying, not exactly what you were saying.
Of course they CAN try to leave, but they run a high risk of starving or being caught and executed, only to end up in another situation of abuse and poverty.
You asked why they don't just leave. That's why.
#289 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/16/2013) [-]
It's just common courtesy to thumb down the first comment in an argument, as all of the comments are backing up the same point. Beyond that you're just being a dick. At least that's been my understanding of thumb etiquette. Whatever.
How is my argument limited by another commenter's? I'm talking about all neglected women in these countries. Even if they're allowed to leave, they still are extremely unlikely to even survive the trip and they also face immigration laws if they must leave the country.
#291 - whtkid (09/16/2013) [-]
Because you did not state that you were changing what the discussion was about, youve brought it upon an entirely different factor in which the women is already married, and im pushing the point from where she is not. These two discussions are almost entirely different, one has nothing to lose if she leaves, the other is being held back by family, possibly even children.
#292 - myshipsailedwoutme (09/16/2013) [-]
But regardless my point still enforces that women CAN be neglected, which was the root subject of this all. Sorry if I was not clear that I was talking about primarily married women.
And again, starvation and immigration laws are still serious threats regardless of your marital status.
The entire point here was that women can be neglected. If they face a high risk of death for leaving, then I believe it classifies as neglect.

Okay: Blues, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Techno, Hip-hop, RAP, RnB, Grunge, all of which were at one point in time the most popular forms of music originated in the US.
Along with the music came the style, the clothing, the attitude, the vernacular, the defining image of those decades. Even though the Beatles had their mark on a decade, they were influenced by music that came from the States. Also, their style (as in the hippie clothing and all that) was adopted from American rock stars. Hence why it's not arrogant when it's pretty clear that most o this shit originated in the US.
Then there's the movies, comics, "nerd/geek culture," and American TV that influenced the globe. So no, I don't see how it's arrogant when damn near everything today and for the last century was influenced by Americans one way or the other
#163 - daorien (09/05/2013) [-]
You're correct in the rest, however that's only small part of culture and it still sounds arrogant and it is arrogant when you say "damn near everything today and for the last century was influenced by Americans one way or the other " . You don't control every part of the culture, you have major influence in movie and music industry + Broadway. Art, architecture and literature is still dominant in the Europe and is influencing You. Just like You influence us with music, movies and fandoms.

Israel uses a defense tactic known as a reprisal = sending out a clear message to not 'mess with us even in the slightest otherwise we'll come get you' = basically showing that they can really 'mess their opponents up' if they wanted
Now, i'm in no way justifying the the out of proportion way Israel acts. but if you study the history of it Israel and the middle east - you'll realise that it's reasonable for them to act that way from their perspective:
From day one (literally) Israel was attacked by its surrounding neighbors, and this has continued ever since. So time and time again Israel is saying 'leave me the fuck alone!' and getting more and more angry each time.
It's the equivalent of a small kid with a bb-gun going up to a built athlete with assualt rifles - and then poking the athlete continuously (the raids from the surrounding countries).
When the athlete responds by beating the shit out of the kid - the kid goes crying 'look how mean he his to me WAH WAHH' - it's a situation where the 'raiders' are taunting the bull, and then complaining when they get impaled by the horns.
What's really shocking is that the groups who organise the raids think it will actually work - they're just perpetuating their own defeat. Like raids didn't work in the 50s when Israel was FAR less prepared, what makes people think raids will work today?
It's just wasted energy, and is basically just throwing anger out therein the least productive way; violence.
Israel has just maintained it's no tolerance to raids policy (responding with reprisals) which it has done since it's conception as a country + ALL the Arab-Israeli wars.
Really, it's the arabs that aren't helping themselves - i mean they literally keep trying the same thing over and over and over again -and it's something that has never worked...
So you can't blame Israel for the way they act.
P.s i say that as someone from Afghan origin.
#177 - bigmanfifty (09/04/2013) [-]
Regarding your athelete/small kid analogy: what if that athlete had taken that child's home?
Remember, Israel was founded when hundreds of thousands of Palestinian people were forced off their land by British troops. That land was theirs, they were living there and they were forced off their land and turned into refugees overnight. They didn't strike first.
Also, it's not just reprisals. Israel is a specialist in the 'pre-emptive strike' where they missile large groups of people just because they're in a large group. Not to mention their steady destruction of infastructure: schools, roads, hospitals etc
Those raids aren't part of some coherent military strategy, they are the desperate defence of a people who sense they are being exterminated by Israel arms and American money.

Well I'm not really into politics and all that stuff, and you seem to be far more educated on that subject than I am, but from what I understand, is that all the arabic countries who attack us, attack whole cities (which makes the civilians hide in shelters every two hours). When Israel attacks back, it only attacks soldiers, not civilians. I really don't get that whole Gaza thing though.

This site mercilessly attacks every possible job and demographic group there is and you get pissy about one job?
Teachers keep you educated, dustbin men keep you from drowning in trash, bus drivers keep people moving. There are loads of jobs just as important as police, why should we worship them?
