I am King, nice.

It took me a minute or two before I recognized the name, but yeah, this guy is on my notepad doc list. I don't think I've heard anything from this album before. It does sound really nice though. Those horns and folkiness make the NMH suggestion fitting. Singing pretty different though; I like it.
A quality share, DJ rye bread.

Yeah, I see Beirut being compared to that band A Hawk and a Hacksaw a lot, which has an NMH member in it, but Beirut seems a lot indie-poppier and incorporates electronic stuff. It's cool. I listened to part of some newer Beirut album or EP a while ago and didn't really like it at all, and I couldn't see any kind of connection between the two bands. This is his first one though, and it sounds way closer, so i guess the sound changed over time.
No prob, ultraskyperequestmaker

I'm about to go to bed, might canoe around the lake with one of my friends tomorrow. Otherwise, chillin, music, reading Ringworld by Larry Niven. Contemplating starting Skyrim again soon, I only got like 2 hours into it last time and got busy with other junk.

I'm not sure I objectively see how that's objectively the best but I'll objectively trust you, even though it seems objectively weird to me. lel.
I like episode I tbh. I like all the prequels. Not better than the originals, but good. Annoys me that everyone bags on them.
#139199 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
Honestly, the only one that seriously annoys me is Episode II. I genuinely love Episode III.
Lol, here's a whole article somebody wrote about it. It made sense to me. I like to watch them in that way and watch Episode I before I do it so there's a little separation. They all seem to flow even better without it stuck in there.
#139205 - ultrablue (12/29/2014) [-]
Oh my fucking god I deleted my long ass reply FUCK.
Jesus Christ I wanna shoot myself... I was saying a lot of important stuff...
Basically, I understand it better now, but only as a tool for someone who's never seen it before; as a veteran of Star Wars, I'm content with watching it in Episode form.
Also, I understand if you don't like Episode II, as there's a lot of bs in it, but I love the ending battle scenes so much, same with Episode I. Also, I never understand the unbridled hate for Jar-Jar; he's comic relief, same as uhhhh FUCKING C-3P0 and R2-D2 in the original movies. It baffles me that no one realizes that those are parallel characters, but NOOOO C-3P0 and R2 are fucking FINE, great characters. Fuck outta here. Not saying Jar-Jar is amazing, but if he ruins a movie for you, then 3P0 and R2 should ruin all of the originals for you by that logic.
#139206 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
He offends my Jamaican heritage. Not that I have any, but if I did, I would be furious!
Yeah, I dunno how some people let Jar Jar ruin the movie(s) for them. Jar Jar does serve a purpose in Episode I, and then he kinda disappears. I don't personally like him as a character and I think C-3PO and R2-D2 were much better, but he doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the movies that much.
I still like that order for watching the movies in general. It just seems to work better to present the whole series than any other way. The 5 or 6 movies feel more like parts of one story than if you watched the 2 trilogies separately. I guess it just feels like more of an immersive experience than the alternatives.
#139207 - ultrablue (12/29/2014) [-]
I GUESS IF YOU WANNA FEEL THAT WAY THAT'S FINE
Guess I never really thought about it before, but it doesn't bother me too much. Then again, I never really have watched them all in order in a short period of time, so I never got the chance to see what's best. YOU KNOW HEH.
Ever heard of the movie Ink before? Did I ever mention it before?
#139214 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
Is it my objective to become you now? Are we switching lives?
Alright, here's what you need to do:
Gather some friends, find the nearest mountain, climb it, go to McDonald's and order the cheapest thing you can, practice coin tricks for 1 hour on one of the tables then blast this www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szp-XZk8ieA on the way to one of your friends' houses to record a 10 track album about wizards.

Yes, I have hope. If I ever make it to your neck of the woods someday you can show me all the creepy locations you know of. Or you can just film some footage for me and we'll put it in lol. We have this unspoken rule of never letting it be obvious where we're from, which is why there is footage of my friend's trip to Italy in one vid and some shots from when I went to London in the last one lol. And other various places that I can't recall off the top of my head.

I listened to Boc Maxima on Christmas Eve while I did all my last minute gift shopping. It was a pretty chill day, though I'm sure it doesn't beat your Canada pairing.
New Blockhead... Ugh... What the fuck. Fuck him. Making that good music. Asshole real talk, this album.. I've only listened to it like 3 times all the way through and I think it's already top 5 this year for me.

The Hobbit movies seemed way lower quality than the LotR ones. Still, I'm not sure if I want to sit the new one out or not. I did see the first 2 in theaters and I enjoyed the 2nd one a little more than the first. We'll see. Have fun mang, I wish I had some friend who would be up for that. I'm going to try and convince some of them to do a Star Wars movie marathon before Episode VII next year. I'm so ready for that.
I'm going to re-watch the LotR extended trilogy very soon. Those are some of my favorite movies of all time. I dunno when I'll pick up another Tolkien book after my overload this summer, though. It was glorious.
#139196 - ultrablue (12/29/2014) [-]
No, I totally agree, the Hobbit movies aren't even on the same level as LotR. Too much CGI, like seriously. I was glad to see a lot of people on certain youtube videos agree with me about that.. just looks way to fake in a lot of parts and it really takes away from the movie. That said, I'd still like to watch them again, I've only seen the first two in theaters and I still wanna check the third.
Definitely need to get on the books train though. Once I whittle down my pile of books I have yet to read, then I'll get to Tolkein's shit.
Oh and speaking of marathoning Star Wars, a few years back, me and the same friend I'm talking about went to visit another friend at college and we tried to marathon all 6 Star Wars movies... problem is we started at midnight lol. We only got through like 2 and a half of the prequels before everyone fell asleep. Still need to retry that again soon. Before the new movie comes out would definitely be an ideal time, good thinking.
#139197 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
You have to do them in machete order, shit's nerdy as fuck but it's objectively shibe mode engaged the best way to marathon them:
IV - V - (I) - II - III - VI
Episode I is optional because it a.) kinda sucks, and b.) takes away from Anakin's image as an angsty dude on the path to the dark side.
That order preserves the Vader twist from the original trilogy and the Palpatine twist from the prequel trilogy. Plus you get to start with the first movie released, and finish with the last film in the Star Wars film timeline.

Also, Tomorrow's Harvest is amazing. I always look forward to it coming up in my BoC rotation... even though it came out over a year and a half ago, I still feel like I've barely listened to it and keep discovering new things about it.
Mansfield Reformatory EP by [MIIIIM] second on the top row is another great release from Sparkwood Records... the second song reminds me a lot of OPN which is awesome.
Had a Kristoff Krane listening spree... Picking Flowers Next To Roadkill is still one of my favorite rap albums of all time. All should check that if you've never listened to it before.
Anyway, I'll shut up now.
