As a great example snaggletooth games had a Lord of the Rings miniatures game that was simpler to play, cheaper to purchase, and in my opinion more fun because it appealed to a broader range of players. GW eventually bought the company, made as much money off of them as possible, and then closed the company before they were able to release their final product line. The final product line being Return of the King miniatures.
