thus the saying in the OJ Simpson case "If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit." Its part of what makes American law so great and effective for so long (though it also shows corruption in some cases). Basically, America decided justice is decided by moral righteousness, not any set law. The justice system that is truly concerned with justice primarily, not upholding the law.

You're right, Norway has one of the lowest percentages of fallbacks from people in prisons in the world - however, some penalties are just plain stupid. 10 years for killing someone is too mild in my opinion.

Well everything is more expensive in norway too.
People that go to norwegian prisons don't go there again in many cases.
Consider getting 10 years then never going there again. While many americans due to poor consulting and rehabiltation will visit again and again and again, which would just increase the cost.

I think that if you focused on rehabilitation instead of imprisonment you could decrease the costs because fewer people would come back to the prison again.
They'd experience something they haven't experienced before, care, trust, belief and thought-out acceptance.

No, you don't understand.. they are REALLY firthy rich.

As in they don't even blink when they buy a small 10$ ice-cream cone.

Also don't you get it - the recidivist amount is really small. Repetitive crime is not the main issue in why prisons are already filled and expensive. You can't jsut cut the system expecting that suddenly everyone in an established prison system will become good after spending a bit time in good surroundings.
But yea - moving towards rehab is needed. Then again you are not discovering any new America - every prison science says rehab is better, only that you need really good management to pull it off in a long run. Sometimes shitty prisons with mandatory prison work will yield much better results than rehab with supposedly reduced state expenses overall.

I'm norwegian, and we're not filthy rich. We have a over-middle class lifestyle but stuff like food and clothes are a lot cheaper in america, making the youths "poor" in some places if they don't have jobs. atleast it's that for me.

well the thing is that the government of Norway don't act like money whores, a politician in Norway don't get more than at most twice that of a doctor, while a doctor gets maybe a little bit more than twice the salary of a principle/teacher.

In capitalist America, you can get filthy rich or damn poor. when 20 % of america own as much as 80% of the rest, you may start to wonder.
